Just thought I’d share this feel good experience of living during the pandemic.

I was out today running some errands.  I stopped at a little Brazilian place for lunch and was asked if I wanted it for here or to go.  Nice.  Haven’t been asked that in a few months.  California lifted the latest dining closure a few days ago.  I opted for the outdoor patio.

In the nearby parking lot, a ’70’s cover band was playing.  There was nothing remarkable about the band or the music they played.  If it weren’t for the setting, it would’ve been entirely forgettable.  But it was heaven!  For the first time in over a year, I was witnessing something I’d previously taken for granted.  Live music!  After I finished eating, I joined the growing crowd.  We were all laughing and dancing and cheering.  For an hour I didn’t notice my mask…and I didn’t think about the pandemic.

I’ve streamed countless live concert videos in the last year.  None of them could replicate the dynamic I felt today.  The crowd and the band fed off each other.  It was primal.  There was raw emotional release.  There was healing.  It felt good to be alive.  I’ll remember it as one of the most cathartic moments of the pandemic.

Real human interaction-Yes I can feel what you said! Thanks for putting a smile on my face today Emily

I use to go out in Portland OR often and loved the corner musicians and activity that happened. The events, the people, the places I miss so much. As I drive those areas now I wounder how long it will take to become alive again-that I don’t know but it will happen-people are resilient…

I visited Portland for the first time last October.  Loved it and plan to go back.  Music venues were closed though.  Next trip.  Any recommendations?  I think later this year we’ll start to see a semblance of normal.

          Hi Emily,

I think it best to wait until you are planning a trip to see whats left. Many quaint parts of town are devastated not only from forced shutdowns but from the despicable act of rioters that were allowed to run free. I drive through there about every other month to see what it’s like and shake my head with disgust, sadness and the wonderful memories of so many fantastic days and nights. Some places are around and open, some boarded up and hopefully weathering the storm to re-open later. Many of my favorite places are gone I fear forever. Even in my guy side our family would go stay DT a couple times a year and love it but now I wonder how long it will be before we go again-I am sure at least another year if not more.

Let me know when you plan a trip…

My fav club is The Belly Up in Solona Beach. Can’t count the times I saw The Beat Farmers there. I’ll make the drive from the OC even if a band is playing The Coach House. Gawd I hate The Coach House! Horrible venue. Be safe.
      Love and Peace,
      Amber

Best Farmers?  Belly Up?  We may have seen some of the same shows.  Belly Up is just a few minutes away.  Seen countless shows there.  Agree it’s one of the best music venues in SoCal.  Been to Coach House once.  Didn’t like it.  But the show was great.  Saw one of the first performances by Firehose after D Boon’s death and the end of the Minutemen.

      Hi everyone!

I certainly hope that live concerts of any type can happen again, perhaps even this year. I miss attending live concerts for the artists we all love from our lives growing up. The high cost for tickets is never what I really want to pay, but I could certainly find ways to waste the money I spend on tickets to these performances.

I was a DJ for many years and COVID has been enough to have me retire that satisfying part of my life. I will miss it but not regret it with the requirements which venues place on DJs. I have always believed the slogan I know others have used which is “Music is LIFE.” I will never believe it is not. Hearing a song from our past will almost always bring out emotions that will hopefully always be good for us with a memory. Favorite songs are never replaced; they are only added to with others we hear.

It is SO GOOD for me to be on this site. Its safety and ability to easily make new friends around the world makes my day every day.

      Hugs,

      Stephanie
