For me the good news last week was my GP referring me to the NHS Gender Dysphoria.
And this was good news as I need my inner self (I am a woman) and my outer self (I am genetically a male) to be in close harmony. At this stage I am thinking down the line of hormone treatment rather than surgery because at 67 I feel that is a little too old. (But I should never say never)
The bad news was my GP telling me that the wait time for the NHS GD Clinic can be up to 3 years.
I asked about alternatives, and he said the only other way was to go private. To this I later asked the surgery for any recommendations but there were none made, so that leaves me GOOGLE searching.
To this end I am wondering if there are any other British girls who have used a private Gender Dysphoria Clinic, and if so are there any recommendations to be made?
Any feedback would be massively appreciated.
Thanks

Philippa,
I had this impression that the wait was about 2 years plus which was off putting. Recently the government said the main centre was being disbanded to regional areas as a new initiative – I found out they already exist!
Your doctor will refer you you to the main clinic and you will receive the admin forms and there is a long wait as you say. However your doctor should be able to prescribe hormones once registered. It may be that they have no dedicated G.P. for trans but may be able to consult with a regional centre.
On a G.P visit this year for an unrelated issue I went dressed for the appointment and after dealing with the issue the G.P. asked about my dressing and said that they would support me should I wish to progress. I then received a call from another G.P. in the practice that was the G.P. that specialised in treatment for trans. We had a conversation and the forms were sent for registration. Once done she was then in a position to prescribe hormones straight away liaising with our regional centre.
I would suggest you call to talk to a G.P to see if this is the case where you are or find your regional clinic and give them a call to find out more. If you look on the NHS website and find ‘How to find and NHS gender dysphoria clinic’ and call the one appropriate for you.
If you look at the NHS gender dysphoria pages it will give you lots of information.
Good luck
