Maybe I don’t get out enough and do most of my shopping online. But I hardly ever hear anyone say panties. My wife usually refers to them as undies or underwear. Does anyone else find this to be true?

My wife also does refers to panties as underwear. In fact, aside from here and shopping, I rarely hear panty or panties as well.

I love the word PANTIES and use it all the time, my wife also calls them panties and I hope she never calls them underwear. they are too pretty and sexy to be called anything else.

    • #420971

Hi Alana nice to meet you and yes panties is the correct word as both wife and Stephanie use the panties word to describe the sexy cute article of womanly clothing  that we both have on and in our drawers  great question ..

Alana, I hadn’t given it much thought until you brought it up. But my wife says undies and underwear and I have always said panties. It might have some relation to me wearing cute and  sexy panties and she wears big ol’ grandma undies, lol.

I have an idea why.  I think its the same reason why you dont hear women say “pantyhose” either.  Their leggings or tights. I believe in UK its “tights” anyway isn’t it?

Women somewhat un-knowingly at times have weeded out these terms because there tends to be a sexual connotation to it.

Notice how Stephanie and Mika both said “sexy panties?”

It’s so funny and contradictory at times because women wont call them “panties” or wont wear pantyhose and nice heels to work because god forbid they dont want to be sexualized objects in the workplace…but watch them when WAP by Cardi B comes on!!  Thats totally fine!!

And they wonder why were confused??

      Hi

Panties is a lovely word…why I can’t say….just is so very feminine…. maybe because as a crossdresser starting out, they are probably one of the first and most accessible items we can get hold of ( thanks mum!!!)

      Girls,

Indeed the divergence of UK English and US English here. In the UK panties are made of nylon and cover the legs in one item, pantyhose in full. Knickers are feminine underwear, subdivided into tanga’s, briefs, French knickers etc.

In the US panties are feminine underwear, nylons are the leg covering. I think there is agreement though on thongs etc both sides.

For completeness in the UK stockings are single nylons held up by a suspenders belt. In the US they are held up by garter belts. In the UK a garter is a single band around the leg to hold up stockings. One of the highest orders of chivalry is a Knight of the Garter, yum!

At least we agree on brassiere or bra!

Americans in England cause blushes talking of wearing pants (male underwear in UK) when they mean trousers!

      simone

PS- And in the UK “tights” usually mean nylon stockings (panties)

In our house, wifey refers to bras and panties as underwear.  Everything else is just clothes.  She doesn’t make a big deal over it.   Boring, right!

My wife always refers to them as panties, whether referring to hers or my own.

I personally prefer the term ‘knickers’, but accept I might be in the minority here.

Knickers is my fave as well, and it goes so well when used in conjunction with so many other words; Well hello there Miss naughty knickers

    • #421197

I think that panties is more of an American term. For myself I prefer knickers. It is such an expressive word that one can really get one’s tongue around.

    • #421208

I believe it has mostly to do with what we hear as we are raised, and some regional influences are at work too.  I love the word ‘knicker’s’ as it reminds me of reading older stories like ‘Fanny Hill’ and such.  I don’t use it very often at all though, as my mom and sister both used panties in reference to what covered their lower anatomy.  Undies usually meant everything you were wearing beneath your outerwear, bra, panties, girdle, possibly a waist cincher and bustier for more daring and sexual attire.

I am a lover of sexy and fine panties.  Only my utilitarian panties are plain cotton, for working in the yard or doing house work, etc.  My panties for feeling femme and being sexy for myself and FWB are decorated with lace and/or floral and pastel colors, some more revealing than others.

Panties have some kind of special power over young boys, as they/we seem to go to some extremes sometimes to get our first glimpses of them, not to mention what happens to girls like us the very first time we slide that first pair up our legs and around our waist.  We are forever transformed by them, and captured by their essence.  Only our first brassiere comes even close to the attraction and effect of lingerie on us.  I have always wondered why GG women seldom recognize this powerful attraction themselves.  Some do, and can wield great power over men, or even some women, using the sexier styles to their advantage.  I have had that power over a few of my lovers also in the past, and it IS a very effective thing to use.

Beautiful lingerie, especially panties, to me anyway, are the ultimate expression of our femininity and sensualality that we express for ourselves and special people in our lives.

I’ve always loved that word knickers.  Such a cute sounding word.  Growing up I would always hear Die Unterhose ( underpants ).  German isn’t exactly known as a romantic or sexy sounding language tho.  Panties is very North American, but it works.  Delicates?  Briefs?  Rompers?  Undies?  I will accept all. 😁

Wow Stevie!!!….it’s always been panties where I live in England…..it seems I woke up this morning in…..North America!!….

and here, Rompers are little ” onesies” for toddlers….not sexy at all …

isn’t the world a wonderful place!!

I think panties has more of a sexual connotation than other descriptors, especially for men.  I don’t know why, exactly.   Fetishism? School girl fantasies? I dunno, but from Jethro Toll’s Aqualung to online porn to lurid newspaper stories, the word panties is typically used in place of more benign terms likes undies, knickers, etc. to add a hint of  titillation, especially when the objective is to harvest eyeballs or mouse clicks.

Hell, there’s even a line of shampoo called Pantene.  Coincidence? I think not.

      Mona

P.S. In the spirit of all the sophomoric joking around here lately: Confucius say, panties not the best thing in the world, but close to it.

    • #421658

As I am ‘in charge’ of the laundry at home, the word panties is said as often as necessary and acceptable.

A few statements that are repeated fairly often….

“Dad, did you take my panties?”

“Are these YOUR panties or -daughters name-?”

“Why did you give ME your panties? I would never wear those!”

Hi all , when i shop on line or in store its always advertised as panties not under ware . When someone says under ware in a ladies shop i imagine a pile of men’s under ware with the pee whole sowed up and being advertised as ladies under ware , barf . When i shop for undies i want to see panties , i want to ware panties , they are sexy and silky , i am prissy and i love being that way . Don’t you , when you shop for your man’s undies you shop for under ware , male , not female . Panties girls , panties , we ware panties . Leslie

Sorry I thought this was a discussion about plastic, as that seems to be the environmental impact issue of the century. That particular word eco warriors and environmentalists seem almost to frightened to say.

Panties environmental friendly edible ones (but that’s another naughty story.)

My lips are sealed, love the word panties so feminine.
