With respect to the enclosed article, is having an openly transgender person in a high government position a positive sign in terms of acceptance and tolerance for the LBGTQ community?

It seems like a good start. As long as she is being picked because she’s qualified.

My first reaction is that a personable role-model with a platform from which to express facts, ideas, concepts and points-of-view beneficial to an understanding of the multiple aspects of gender variance is a valuable asset.
Their interactions with the obstinately misogynistic transphobic not only reveals the obstacles and calumny faced by many of us but also the deliberate intent to harm ‘different’ people that these persons engage in.
It would seem that a transgender person in a high office would be beneficial in assisting to shape not only governmental policy but public opinion. There may be grounds for objection, presumably based on the capability of the relevant person to be representative of somewhat bewildering mosaic of persons, but I am aware of nothing special at the moment.

I live in New Jersey near Philadelphia so we’ve been seeing Dr. Levine frequently on the news since last March. She has seemed to be capable, responsible and level headed. I know nothing about the other candidates for the position but from what I can see she seems qualified. Which, I hope was the only consideration. As long as that’s the case, her being a transwoman is icing on the cake!
