      Lady

      Move over   Mary Jane,

      Move Over G.I. Jane,

      Move Over Calamity Jane

      Where is Jessica Jane ?

      Jessica Jane

      Strong-arm lady of an outlaw clan.

      She twirled an old Colt forty-five;

      They never took Jessica Jane alive

      Jessica was the queen of the West

      Held a diamond heart in her left breast

      She’d a fire in her heart no hurt could stifle;

      Lion eyes and a Winchester rifle.

      Jessica rode through a sleeping town;

      Looked the moonlit street both up and down;

      Crack-crack-crack, the street ran flames

      And a great voice cried, “I’m Jessica Jane.

      Jessica Jane rode hell for leather;

      She was a horse and a woman together;

      In a cave in a mountain high up in air

      Shlived with a rattlesnake, a wolf, and a bear.

      Jessica’s heart was too hard for a woman;

      For guts and strength she was super-human;

      She could put six shots through a woodpecker’s eye

      And take in one swallow a gallon of rye.

      They sought her here and they sought her there,

      But she strides by night through the ways of the air;

      They say she was took and they say she is dead

      But she ain’t – she’s a sunset overhead.

      Yes, Jessica Jane was a two-gun lady

      The same as when this poem  began;

      And when you see a sunset burst into flame

      Or a thunderstorm blaze

      — that’s– Jessica Jane!
