I go with my mom and get a pedicure about once a month, but with it becoming closed toe shoe season I was thinking of getting them painted. How should I go about getting them painted next time?

Is your concern that your mom not know they’re painted?

There is a way round that, paint them yourself. I go for a pedicure with my daughters, wifey used to go with us too before she passed. I bought a colour at Walmart a while ago and after my pedi, I paint them myself at home.

Well, if you’re pedicure doesn’t include clear polish you could start there. If color is a must then go on your own and present your mom with a “feet accompli”.

Go for a pedicure and choose the color that you like. I prefer a color that will show nicer against my skin tone. I go to a salon that does pedicure and will paint the nails. First time I asked for them to be painted I the lady had to ask me if I was sure I wanted them painted. Had a good laugh over it. Hugs, Allysa

I don’t get involved with either of those services or actions, don’t bother. To me it’s a waste of time and money on a minor vanity that nobody looks at . I don’t even bother painting nails myself, as it takes up too much valuable time and clean up after afterwards to carefully clean fingers to avoid telltale residue.

A friend took me for my first pedicure back in the early 90’s and after that I’ve been hooked. Been going to the same salon for at least ten years and although I haven’t had polish yet, I know when I do, and I will, it wouldn’t be a big deal. So start with applying your own after a pedicure and see if you like it, and if you do and you’re able, start to go to a different salon so there’s no connection with your mom and you can keep it to yourself.

My wife and I go for mani-pedis every couple month.  The first time we went was before Halloween last year.  I jokingly told the technician to put black polish on my toes and then said I was only joking.  When we left my wife told me if I wanted I could have gotten color on my toes.  She surprised me when she said that.  Nest time we went back was before Christmas and I had my toes painted red.  Before Valentines Day we went again and I had them done in red with little red hearts.  I just got them done again before Halloween in a black color with marbling of color.  My fingers I do in clear with a very light hint of  pink.  I don’t get color on my toes at all during sandal season.  I have used press on nails on my fingers a couple times and loved the look.

Not sure if I understand the question, but the place we go to for pedis, when it is sandal season for my wife she picks a colour for herself and I pick a colour for myself.

Then we place the bottles by the chair we are going to sit in and the pedicure specialist does our feet.  At the end she’ll then use the colour we picked out for ourselves to do our nails.

        Wendy –

Sounds similar to my wife and I.   When we go we take the color sticks and help each other pick out our colors, it’s a lot of fun doing that.  We tell the technician what we want and they always turn out pretty good.  I would do color all year but with the grandkids and neighbors there are too many questions during sandal season unfortunately.

Just tell your mom that you wanted to try getting them painted just once to see how you like it. Maybe get them painted in your favorite sport teams colors. Getting them painted helps me any way feel so girly and makes me smile just thinking about it.
Just a note I have had my finger nails colored off and on for a year and a half now. I love it and I found most people don’t care (or are happy for me).

A pedicure is on my list to try. I did a pretty amateurish job on my attempt this summer (pic uploaded, awaiting approval) and want to see what a pro can do.

Go get a spa pedicure and a spa manicure! You will love it! I have seen a lot of men getting them and a few with color too. How you dress is up to you, But I promise if you go to the right place you will be in heaven after even if you choose clear on your nails!

        Wanda –

It is so relaxing and enjoyable getting your nails done at a nail salon.  You owe it to yourself to get them done.  My wife suggested we go for mani-pedi’s the first time and now we go every couple months.

PS – we also did a spa day when we were on a cruise which was nice – we need to schedule one – if you’ve never done it, it is very relaxing – when we did it before Suzanne was not in the picture – now with her being here it may be even more fun

Tell your mom the same thing I tell everyone about my painted nails! Say “I want to express myself with color! If I get a tattoo of the colors right above my nails that’s ok for a man to do! But that is permanent and I hate tattoos. With nail polish if I don’t like to color a little nail polish remover or gasoline for that fact will take it right off and it is gone. What would you rather me have Tattoos or colored nails?”

I go get waxed and spa mani-pedis with color a lot with my wife! My feet always get color but I work on cars and unfortunately the work and gas takes it off so sometimes no color but clear! I also get holiday custom nail paint jobs that are great! When I have my mani the girl will massage my back and find my bra and get a surprise when she massages my front! Right now I have blue nails and plan to get them redone for my surgery! I’m open to color choices!

Yesterday I had my nails done in Christmas colors. I chose red, green and silver sparkly nails.

I’ve been getting color on my nails for the last 2 years and wearing it out and about all the time.

When asked(not that I HAVE to answer), I say, why should the girls be the only ones that get to have a splash of color?! And then I move on from the topic as if that’s all there is to it…because that’s exactly all there is to it as far as they’re concerened.

My mother in law asked about it, that was my answer. My ice hockey team got the same reply. I walk around in “boy mode” with flip flops on and have painted nails all the time…enjoy it!

      have fun out there!

      Hi Hannah,

When you get a pedicure, you should always be getting your toenails painted especially in the summer so that everyone can see your pretty toes when you wear sandals!! When you go to the salon wear women’s flip flops and pick a polish when you go to the nail salon just like other girls do. Red toenails are really festive and pretty this time of year and besides you can never go wrong with red toenails.

Same for me Rayna. My toenails are always professionally pedicured and I wear women’s sandals everywhere. I usually wear bright red polish on my toenails. After all, since I get pedicures I want everyone to see my pretty toes! I get a lot of compliments on my pedicures from women. My favorite red for my toes is OPI Big Apple Red. Women that I work with say that I have hooker red toenails. 🙂

Don’t worry about kids and neighbors. If anyone asks why you toenails are painted, just tell them that you like color. It is that simple. Don’t live your life for other people. You are not violating any laws.

Does your mom get her toenails painted? If so, why is it ok for her, but not for you? Just tell the nail tech that you want your toenails to be the same color as your mom’s toenails.

I have a had time putting nail polish on my toes. Any tips on doing so?

    • #693364

I used a backscratcher like a painter’s stick to steady my brush hand. It helped.
