Anyone ever approached a standard Dept Store and requested a private fitting time, like before store opens or after it closes?

Davina…..howdy. I highly doubt that would be possible in a big box store………all the staff know is…….”just what is on the shelf”  What shelf you ask…..”Oh I don’t know…go ask that girl/guy over there”!  If you need a private or custom fitting, you will need to go to a Specialist Store during regular hours.

I have been going out enfemme for a long time. Prior to that I would buy clothes at different stores in drab. The key is to think what is the worst that could happen.  The salesperson could laugh at you and refuse to sell to you. In today’s times I think that happening is improbable,  but if it did, you would just leave and that would be the end of it.

Davina, Lady Veronica is right, but if you know the store management you might be able to have them let you in before store hours, let you try on clothing just after they opened.

      Greetings Davina,

I stand with the other comments that department stores will no open early or stay open later for your needs. But you may be able to make arrangements with a sales clerk for a little bit more private time. Go to your favorite store and strike up a conversation with a sales associate about your needs and see where the chips falls. Stores that are not part of a mall, a stand alone store or maybe one in a strip mall may be better suited for odd hours. Especially if you are a frequent customer. Depending on your size a number of Catherines and Lane Bryants that are stand alone will be more willing to help you out.

Give it a try girl, what have you got to loose.

Davina, my personal experiance has led me to three places that allowed private fittings: Catherines( plus tall  & plus petite) and Lane Byant(plus sizes) and outlet stores for Platex, Bali. All of them were hugely helpfull. I did not, however, ask for before or after hours.

I agree with others, get to know the management and sales people. If you go to the store enough, are courteous/friendly, and are a true customer (make purchases), it’s amazing how they’ll accomodate you.

The truth is that working in a store is a bit boring with all the rules, irate customers, and lots of time with no one around. Many sales people are thirsty to have a conversation, it passes the time (they’re getting paid after all), and they’re people too.

Most higher end stores offer a “Personal Assistant” with appointments for shopping.

I did one about 8 years ago at Macy’s. Heather was awesome, we chatted a bit before hand about style and sizes. She had a private office with changing room and I tried a few things on she picked before I arrived. Once I tried those on we went out in the store and we picked 7 or 8 dresses, some even “Just for fun” to try on. No obligations to buy.

The key reason I did this was to learn more about women’s sizing plus professional help in choosing a style for me.

I asked at the cash once at Sears for a private fitting. There must (have) been some ranking of CSA’s in the bra department because the middle aged woman assistant very clearly did not want anything to do with me. Short, terse words, very quick measurements…It was an ugly scene.

And although the bra she dumped on me, and then left the fitting room immediately, was absolutely wonderful….I did not award such treatment with my cash.

I agree the the above.  I shop at Nordstrom and Macy’s.  Both places I have salesladies that I have been working with for several years.  I know their schedules so I know when to come in.  They get commissions and if you support them they will support you.

I’ve used the personal assistants too.  I tell them up front on the online form I am a crossdresser.

      Have fun shopping, girls.
