Stand not and weep above our rest,
For now we sleep no pain, but peace,
No marker, cross or name cut neat,
Forgotten not we hope by thee,
Mother healed the scars above, and holds us sweetly with her earth,
That patch of land beneath the field forever home we sleep,
Our sacrifice, your freedom won our duty it is done,
DO stop and talk of what we’ve missed through time that’s past us by,
So walk our field with pride no tears,
Beneath your footprints we lay here, forgotten not, then never lost,
My mates, friends and l.

Thank you Grace, I wrote it for a distance uncle, when we celebrated the centenary of the first World War. We traced three brothers war history’s, one survived, one died of wound and is buried in England, the third killed in action missing. Through letters and photographs and records we know four close mates and 8 comrades went missing from these photos, and were reported missing in action on the same field in the course of the conflict. No one obviously knows the exact spot, but area site of the battalion at that time is documented, so we know roughly where he was killed and probably lays.

Wow Amanda that’s a very beautiful poem. It nicely honors the dead. I especially love this line: “DO stop and talk of what we’ve missed through time that’s past us by,” I think that’s exactly what they would want. Great job.
