I’m a closeted crossdresser, still fairly new at this. I don’t have a home environment where I could dress freely. Any ideas on where I could safely dress up and spend time dressed? I’ve seen photos of girls who presumably get dressed in a public restroom, but that sounds shady and potentially dangerous?

The only short term secure private place I can think of is a hotel room.

Sadly it seems ‘potentially dangerous and shady’ come with the territory. When I’ve looked for it, ‘safe places to dress’ tend to be iffy adult ‘clubs’ or you meet other girls who say come round for dressing, coffee and chat, but then get super pushy for sex once you’re changed and can’t walk out the door.

Best thing is take a cheap hotel room, it;s a bit lonely but you can at least dress without interruption, and that’s something.

Second the idea of a hotel room if you have no other options. Public restroom…NOT a chance.

In winter (too hot other times) I am lucky enough to have a storage unit with natural light and power connected. I can jam up the roller shutter door for privacy and sit in there dressed to the nines if I so desire. As for “nature calling” well, number 1’s I can sort out, number 2’s would mean reverting to the male me….

I’ve thought about getting changed after hours down there, but there’s cameras everywhere….

      Happy dressing,

      Caty

Put on all the clothes that can be worn under something loose (bra, stockings, blouse) and wear loose pants and a loose sweater. If you can do your make-up now too all the better as that is not easy to do. You can apply the last layer of lipstick later. The rest take in a bag. Then head somewhere like a park (being careful not somewhere weirdos who might rob you hang out), put on the rest: skirt, wig, make-up etc.

Often there is a restroom which if the parking is empty you can quickly use to check your make-up and final dress, but be careful not to freak out someone! Then go and enjoy the lovely sensation of being out en femme. If you come back and the car park is not empty, just get in and drive somewhere else. If you need to you can remove the breast forms and scoot out of the skirt in the car and slide your pants back on.

Just remember to bring make-up remover and drab clothes in case you have a car accident or something!

And like most new CDs you’ll be either pleased or disappointed that no-one really takes notice of you! I have walked right past people and know my outfit wasn’t perfect and my make-up badly done and no-one even looked. Just beware teenage boys and small kids.

      Enjoy!!

Yes, be careful or people get the wrong idea!

Your car is probably the cheapest option – with your female clothing underneath the male, the change should be easy in a quiet car park.

I second, or third the option of a motel room – by far the safest, and no-one at a motel will bother a cross dresser, so you can wander around as you will.

Just make sure your motel is near some nice nature reserve that you can enjoy whilst en femme.

I could not recommend a public restroom – you go in one sex and come out another. If anyone sees, that will be cause for comment, and it really seems shady to anyone.

But if it’s quiet and you feel you can take the risk, go in as the “wrong” sex, so no-one comments when you come out.

Ie, go in to the ladies (unseen) in drab, change, then you can do your makeup in comfort!

Reverse to change back, but really make sure you’re not seen going in!

I actually found a “social club” that is close enough by, where they invite people to come dress and hang out.  They have lockers and all to store stuff.

I have not yet been there, but hope to go some day!

Other than that, it’s tough.  For some reason I really get off playing in my car.  But you have to find a safe place to park and not call attention to yourself.  And if you are lucky, it is in a place where you can get out and walk around a bit.

      Hi Kaloopy,

You may want to consider a drag bar or place that has drag shows. I’ve gone to a drag bar before and felt quite safe. There’s usually many women around (if not outnumbering men in my experience) and heck, the performers are dressed up too! Even though drag isn’t totally my thing it’s an environment where alternative lifestyles are acknowledged and celebrated.

As for where to get changed, single occupancy all gender restrooms are becoming more common. You may want to check out public spaces such as a library or community center as they might have reno’d the facilities to include these. University campuses also may be a spot to look as Universities are more likely to keep up with our changing culture i.e. transgender awareness. You might even find a lounge somewhere on campus that isn’t frequented in the summer … it’s worked wonderfully for me in the past.

      Cheers

I get changed in public restrooms, intentionally disabled ones, but it mostly early in the morning into Clara mode and late evening on my return from my day out into back into Glenn mode.  Some times I just through my trackies and shit back on over the top and then once driven away there are some trees near by where I mainly get changed that I can take the trackies and shirt off, insesrt the fake breasts and put the clip on ear rings on.  But as I have said in other posts I try to avoid where there are lots of people and kids, but I have never encountered a problem coming out of the rest room dressed as Clara when I have encountered people.

I used to get dressed in the gender neutral / family restrooms on the interstate. This was possible because I traveled for work, and could leave home, stop along the way, and continue my travels in girl mode. As long as its daylight, public restrooms like those on the interstate are pretty safe.

I know from experience the best place to alone would be a Hotel, Motel, room at a Casino so you have privacy and dont offend anyone the public restrooms seem like a bad idea, but be careful if you do and please only use a single occupancy gender neutral one if you do. IDK where you live to know what might else be near you but there are many places all over. It was mentioned earlier about social clubs there is a crossdresser social club in San Jose Ca called Carlas social club there is a place or was South of Portland Oregon. I believe if you cant find a place that you feel comfortable go back to get a room and be safe you can choose the location to step out either outdoors or indoors while dressed but being in your own room will reduce your anxiety and or panic level than a public restroom. Hooe it works out well for you.

I’ve read of some who rent a storage unit to keep their things and get ready in them.

        Hi Ashley,

I have a 3 m (10ft) square storage unit.. (Lucky me), with natural light and power. I do dress in there sometimes for an hour or three, but as for getting dressed and going out, “not on your Nelly”. Why?? Well obviously the place is full of cameras for one thing and is staffed 7 days a week.  So I’d rather just be male me on the outside of the unit. thanks very much.

I use it to store all manner of things, but a big proportion of this is Caty’s stuff I cant store in my “DADT” home. The usual, forms, shoes, wigs, make up, clothes, jewellery, etc etc

Having power also allows me to do my weekly shave down there. electric jug for hot water, two cut down 2 litre milk bottles for the shaving and rinsing water and “away we go”…. Quote by Jackie Gleeson, 1950’s black and white TV.

        Caty.

            Hi Ashley,

Of the things you have read about storage units, its a good chance it was one of my posts, cos I have mentioned it in the past.

My beloved and I “downsized” to the city from a rural area five years ago and I did not (nor dis I want to) get rid of “everything” Obviously including most of Caty’s things I keep down down in the unit

I previously had a very large shed, with one third as a “Man Cave to die for”. But I also kept all of Caty’s gear in it, so the Man Cave frequently became “The Shediour”!!!

            Caty.

Depending on where you live, I would recommend going to a transformation studio and paying the money to get all dolled up.

…and if you have one in your area they often rent storage space and a place to change even if you don’t do the full service.

I also like the hotel room best but depending on your financial resources it might be a burden.  I have to drive 3 hours to the city to find a place to hang out and so far I always get fully dressed before I leave.   The place I go to has a unisex bathroom but it is not single occupancy and is dimly lit.  I can’t imagine changing there.  I can barely get myself to use the facilities when necessary.  Since I also have a 3 hour trip to get home I don’t get a lot of time there.  A nearby hotel would solve a lot so maybe someday.
