Those of you who know me well know that I’m a huge fan of the band Ghost. And as if I didn’t need anymore reasons to like them, I stumbled across this exchange online, regarding their decision to include their cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” in their live set:
From HardRock FR 3/2022
For a Ghost fan, it’s probably a bit more interesting [to hear “Idolatrine”] than hearing you play, for example, “Enter Sandman.”
(Silence) Tell me, why do you think we’re playing “Enter Sandman” live on this tour?
Because it’s a killer song, your version is great and everyone will sing along?
(Smiles) Partly, but only. We play this song almost every night because the rights to our cover fo to charity that we have chosen [Camp Aranu’tiq], which allows transgender teenagers to go on vacation to summer camps, so they can find their space and rest at least for a moment.
Now, I found this shared as a meme, and couldn’t verify the source of the actual interview, but I double-checked against Metallica’s official release page for the Blacklist charity album, and sure enough, Ghost’s chosen charity is in fact Camp Aranu’tiq! https://www.metallica.com/the-metallica-blacklist/#:~:text=CHARITIES%20SUPPORTED,helps%20support%20Save%20the%20Children.
I mean, how badass is that??? Thanks to Tobias Forge and Ghost for standing up for their transgender fans…support them whenever you can.
