Earlier tonight I was pondering my favourite chick flicks (thanks Kerri!) and it got me wondering why I picked Legally Blonde above some of the better ones. It’s great fun of course, but it’s also incredibly girly. I think of it as a very feminine film, and part of me likes that (go figure).
Now, I love all sorts of films and drab me is especially keen on spaghetti westerns and film noir. My all-time favourite film is The Wild Bunch for Pete’s sake. But there’s a side to me that is attracted to really femme films, those that seem really feminine – if that makes any sense. I don’t mean something like Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which is a wonderful film but is not feminine in the way that I mean; I guess I’m thinking of films that affect me as a crossdresser, a kind of camp femininity. In my case I’d choose something like Moulin Rouge or to a lesser extent Burlesque, but to my mind the most feminine film I’ve seen is Anna Biller’s The Love Witch (2016) a modern ‘sixties style’ horror film that doesn’t have a macho bone in its body. It’s great btw.
So, girls – with that rambling preamble over, what do you consider are the most feminine/girly films? And please use your own definition of what that means to you.
