Sonic The Hedgehog…..

To kick things off in Style, it’s my first 100% spoiler free movie review.

Well, what can I say, this was perhaps not the most romantic of films to take your SO on Valentines Day. Still, the timing was right and we had a great meal out before hitting the big screen…

For all those 30/40 somethings will know Sonic The Hedgehog from the iconic Sega video game. I suppose it was inevitable that the loveable, fast paced blue space rodent would end up as a film franchise as well. We already have had Mario, Final Fantasy, Rampage, Tomb Raider, with varying degrees of success.

Right from the opening scene, Sonic blasts on the screen and the pace of the film is high right from the word go. Despite the character changes since the ill fated first trailer, Sonic is a true fish out of water story and the battle of good versus evil.

Speaking of evil, it is Jim Carey that steals the show with his superb portrayal of Doctor Robotnik. This is the Jim Carey of old, his character being given free reign over his performance to improvise, ad-lib lines and make those unique, Carey facial expressions, not seen since the Mask.

James Marsden is our non-CGI hero, giving Sonic a lesson in humanity and a lid on Sonic’s hyper personality.

The film does ride out with no real surprises. It is clear that this is a direct answer to 2019’s very successful Detective Pikachu, a film which I found a lot funnier and more subtle than this.

Overall, for those who grew up with the video games will love this, if you didn’t, it’s still a fun film and worth a watch.

Did you hear Donald Trumps views on the Korean film that won best picture in the oscars? My thoughts were pretty much the same.  In the name of diversity I hear Telly Tubbys 2 will be nominated in the non-english category next year.

Only joking (sort of).  I look forward to your review on it Sam.
