If you had to pick a theme song for your female persona, what would it be and why?

Mine would be “My Maria” by Brooks & Dunn. Not only is it where I got my name, but it describes the way “being” Maria makes me feel.

Girl, you’ll be a woman soon… Urge Overkill. Made famous by the film Pulp Fiction. The words may not fit but the title and the tune make me so happy 😀

I cannot believe that for the 18 or so months I have been a member here, I have totally missed this section.  I love my music and have it playing almost constantly in my home, probably 10x how much my TV is turned on.  I think I have a song to go with my mood any time I am getting dressed.

The one I listen to most often when getting ready to go out with one of my gentlemen friends is “Nuevos Senoritas” by the Indigo Girls.   Slow and sultry and so easy to sing and do a little swaying sashay as I put on the final touches.

For those of us who like to find gems from the recommendations of others…

Spotify lists this as ‘Nuevas Senoritas’ …. I blame auto-correct for any such mismatches.

        Thanks Paula for the recommendation

Hi. This is an update on my first reply

My theme tune can be heard on YouTube if you search for “I once loved a lass” and I sing the version recorded by “The Corries”

      Happy listening

      Brilliant question!

Mine would be an old folk ballad called “I once loved a lass”

Why? Well, I tells the story of a man who loved a girl who was going to marry another guy. One verse starts

“I watched my love sit down to dine. I sat down beside her and poured out her wine, and I drank to the lassie that should he’s been mine” The lassie is me, Sian. She is the lassie that my man persona should be with, but they can’t be because they are the same person.

It was also the first song I sang at my first an femme gig.

God, it means so much. I will let you know if there is a recording of it.

      Sian x

For me, I started to emerge through Let It Go Idina Menzel from the animated movie Frozen.

I really awakened through This Is Me by Keala Settle from The Greatest Showman soundtrack. Actually, that entire movie is my theme, anthem, declaration to accept myself. Especially Come Alive.

Just in general for life – “Saint Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)” by John Parr.

“Want to be a man in motion

All I need is a pair of wheels

Take me where my future’s laying”

Because of my chariot of independence. (You’d probably call it my wheelchair).

More relating to things around here – “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill

“That girl she holds her head up so high

I think I wanna be her best friend, yeah

      Rebel girl, rebel girl

You are the queen of my world

      Rebel girl, rebel girl

Think I wanna take you home, wanna try on your clothes, huh”

I would like a rebel girl in my life, who brings revolution and let’s me try on her clothes.

I had been struggling with this since I joined my sister here of a year ago and after my long break which ended today « Islands (She Talks In Rainbows) » by Guided by Voices came on as I was typing out my usual « hearts and rainbows » and I thought « there it is! » exciting to finally find it.

I love all sorts of music but none that is exclusivley mine, however, after the complete transformation is done my go to earworm is ‘I feel pretty’ from West side Story.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
      Such a pretty face
      Such a pretty dress
      Such a pretty smile
      Such a pretty me!

      Love this question!

Samantha has her own playlist to get ready to, normally it’s 40 minutes before she’s totally ready. The first song is Born This Way by Lady Gaga, it’s upbeat and gets me in the Samantha zone.

The other standout song is Style by Taylor Swift, could listen to that song for hours. New addition to the list is Courage by Celine Dion, that will move up the playlist no doubt.

My theme song for my female persona is “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall.  This is the song used in the intro to The Devil Wears Prada where all the women are getting dressed, putting on their makeup and getting ready for work in the morning.  I love how upbeat it is and how it makes me want to get dressed up.

mine varies from time to time – but the one that has lasted the longes was True Colours by Cindi Lauper and closely followed by Time after Time … strange that they are both from the same artist !

The newer anthem from The Showman ‘this is me’ and the classic ‘I am what I am’ also both hit the right notes with me.

Hmmm. that got me thinking as I do lke a bit of Cindy and both them would be up there. Perhaps choose another Cindi song though – girls just wanna have fun? No other reason than when dressd ‘en femme’ Anne-Marie just want’s to have fun.

There are three songs that have resonated through my soul for much of my life ever since I first heard them. All of them by Donovan – “Colours, Catch the Wind and Jennifer Juniper”. These so very simple tunes define both my male and female sides. I have alternated between being the singer and a deep desire to be the object of the singer’s affection. Patty’s choice of “Both Sides Now” would be a good choice for me too, but it doesn’t bring me to tears like the Donovan songs. Only one other song brings me to tears like that – The Dead’s “Ripple”, but that has nothing to do with either of my gender aspects. That one just touches me in the deep well of my being.

I’ve always secretly felt that Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen was my theme song. Especially the line, “I check my look in the mirror, I want to change my clothes, my hair, my face.”  My goal for 2017 is to find a better theme song… maybe Don’t Dream It, Be It… even though that is likely the most overused theme song for girls like us.

For me it is ” I am woman”. I find myself frequently turning of the radio in the car just so I can sing it out loud and strong. So much seems to fit my life….numbers too big to ignore…wisdom born of pain… still a long long way to go until I make my brother understand. Yes that is definetly my theme.. I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR.

I have to go with Rocky Horror, Sweet Transvestite, not because of the outrageous way t’s presented but because of the theme of the whole movie, that we should all maybe open our minds a tiny bit and be a little more accepting of each other no matter what you are. Well and yes I just love that part with Dr. Frankenfurter’s  big entrance. I did it one halloween at a karaoke party, what a blast!! Heather

I’ve thought of late that I should write a song about my fem side, but it being a part of my male side.  While still working out what my fem side means to me, I’ve always enjoyed playing the song “Both Side Now” by Joni Mitchell.  Each of the Chorus parts that start: “I’ve looked at clouds / love / life from both sides now”  resonates more deeply in me than ever as I discover what “both” sides truly mean to me.

As odd as it might sound, I think the song ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’ by Kermit the Frog would be an ideal theme song for me. With a few minor changes it could be all about me, especially as I finally came to realise “why wonder why”. Now I just get on with things and don’t ask ‘why?’ anymore.

      It’s not that easy being me;
Having to spend each day the colour people see.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colourful and femme.

      It’s not easy being me.
I am so bored with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass me over ’cause I’m not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
      or stars in the sky.

But I could be as open as the Spring.
And I can be cool and friendly-like.
En femme I can be big like the ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

Because I am all that I can be
Which could make me wonder why, but why wonder? Why Wonder, I am me and it’ll do fine, I’m beautiful!
And I think I’m all I want to be.

      Thank you Kermit!
