I suppose I’m always trying to assemble a soundtrack for my life. These days, as I explore this new side of me, I’ve been drawn to songs of female empowerment and change. It may seem strange, but for the last two weeks, I’ve actually been inspired by a song from a Disney film. If you forget the movie meaning you can actually find some trans empowerment in “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana.

What song inspires or empowers your journey?

      Sara Bareilles – Brave

      ….

Everybody’s been there, everybody’s been stared down
      By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
      Bow down to the mighty
But don’t run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

My musical taste is in an almost constant flux. If I had to pick at this moment I’ll give you four.

      1. Violent And Funky: Infectious Grooves

      2. Rude Mood: Stevie Ray Vaughan

      3. Locomotive Breath: Jethro Tull

      4. Leave Your Hat On: Etta James

There are dozens of blues & rock songs that motivate me on any given day.

      Hugs,

      Lara

I remember going to my 1st CD party in 1979 or 80 and we were all dancing to “We are Family” i think by Sister Sledge. It felt so good knowing that I was not alone.

Waitin’ On A Sunny Day…. Bruuuuuuce

      American Girl…. Tom Petty

Against The Wind & Roll Me Away…. Bob Seeger

Toledo Ohio & Forrest Lawn & Eagles And Horses… John Denver

      I have a few:
Evanescence – “Bring Me To Life”
Veruca Salt – “Seether” & “Volcano Girls”
Save Ferris – “Come on Eileen”
Almost anything by Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nightwish, or Chelsea Wolfe.

Okay more than a few, but I live in the music scene. We only got to see 2 concerts in 2021 and that hurt.

            Was it really?

            That’s fascinating!

I even bought that single when it came out… 》blush 《

The song is amazing, but, as stated, my memory does suck…

            /edit: I stand correct!

It was the B side of “Substitute”, until the 2 sides were flipped – and it was the Righteous Brothers song, not The Who’s song, which was also covered by Clout, before Gloria covered it.

But the B Side of Clout’s “Substitute” was “When Will You Be Mine”, while the B side of Gloria’s version was the original version of “I Will Survive”!!!

      Hi Gerianne,

There is such a long list, but if I had to strip it down to three they would be,

      1. Walk by Foo Fighters.

      2. I believe in a thing called love by The Darkness.

      3.  Your love alone is not enough by Manic Street Preachers.

I have always been a rock chick at heart.

Being a Christian I get great inspiration from Hymns and Carols.
At this season of Advent it’s Handel’s Messiah and Oh Holy Night.
My Hymns would be Saviour Thy dying love and Beneath the Cross of Jesus.
There are so many other Hymns and pieces of Sacred music mostly from the old days.
Non religious music would be Jennifer Rush singing The power of love, Whitney Houston singing I will always love you
Barbara Dickson/Elaine Paige singing I know him so well,
These are just a few. Music has and always will be a big part of my life. You will notice that the non religious songs I’ve mentioned are sung by females.
Is that the feminine part in me coming in?

      1. I Am What I Am by Gloria Gaynor. Anthem.

      Hi Gerianne,

I’d give the nod to The Dillards, “You’ve Got To Be Strong”
      The chorus goes
      You’ve Got To Be Strong
      You’ve Got To Be Strong
      You’ve Got To Be Strong
      And keep on hangin’ on
      And have faith in yourself

      On record it’s very uplifting.
Brings me up when i’m feeling down.

Van Morrison’s “You Gotta Make It Through The World”
      is grittier but helps too.

      Little Feat’s “Willin'”

Mike Oldfield’s “Platinum” which is an instrumental but it builds to such an ecstatic climax i’m always in a better mood when it’s done.

      Thanks for asking.

      Hi Gerianne!

Yes, what Connie says! Annie Lennox was the first female artist I really took notice of. Wow! Into the West, OMG!

The song that also does it for me is You’re Like A God, by Agnes, another “OMG!”

I’d like to look like Agnes too, but that ship has sailed a looong time ago…

      Hugs, Barb 🙂
