I have a great wig that I love, but hair is always falling down into my face. I can deal with that when I’m home by myself, but I want to wear it out on dates and in public. Also I am naturally bald and am worried about my wig slipping when I am out and about. So I guess my questions are:

      1) Can I hairspray my wig, and if so what is the best way to do that (products, etc.  ) and how do I clean it and take care of it afterwards?

      2) What can I do to keep my wig from moving around when I’m on a date and being intimate?

Mona, search for lace wigs. Either only front lace or full lace wigs which can be glued on (with special products as “ghost bond” as example) and should last in place for several days at a time. They are not overly expensive. (Maybe in the $100 to $200 usd) they require an special removal/solvent.

As for using product (gel, mousse, hairspray, etc) yes you can, to style it a bit. Most wigs are heat-resistant, so you can also curl them or straighten them up with tools. One thing to do is using argan oil on them, both as detangler and to keep the fibers from fraying.

Check the clean up instructions from the manufacturer, but basically most wigs can be washed with water and soap to remove any sweat, smell, etc.

        Thanks Gabriela,

I think my wig is full lace?

Maybe a cheap version, but it seems like lace.

Thanks for these tips. If I don’t move around a lot I’m fine, but without glasses to hold my hair back, it eventually falls in front of my face and eyes.

I was telling Angela in the other post that I have been balancing foe most of my adult male life. Dealing with hair is something I have to re-learn and get used to. 😀

Hello Mona. It is not lace front of full lace. In this case lace is not “lace” as normally known.
Lace is the clear (or almost clear) material at the edges of the wig. Lace front wigs have this “netting” going from ear to ear.

Hopefully seeing it in this photo will help make sense:

          Lace wig example

The lace must be cut off as close to the hairline (of the wig) as possible. And then glued (or taped) in place.

Thank you!!! The photo helps. I see the difference now. $100+ wig is a bit out of my budget for now, but I’ll keep an eye out. Sounds like the best choice.

            Thanks Gabriela 💜

I use two sided tape on the brow of the wig. I get it from a wig store and cut a strip of about 5″ off and round the edges. I wear lace front wigs so place the tape at the join of the lace to the main part of the wig. It stays put all day. You can put a smaller strip at the nape.

Tangling is an issue with longer wigs as is fraying. This can be countered with oil, as Gabrielle mentioned, or a good wig spray.

Hair falling into the face is a natural thing but if it is a problem you could use spray.  I would recommend you seek out a wig specialist who can cut the hair and style it to suit you. A stylist can also ‘de frizz’ and help maintain a wig to prolong its wear.

Hope this helps and have happy times.

Thanks Angela. I think my wig is a full lace wig? So it sounds like the tape might be a good short term solution.

It could be that I’m just not used to the hair.  I’ve been bald in my male life for the past 20 years. I have to get used to hair again 😃 timing. suspect it does need some actual shaping and triming.

      Hi there,

Thanks for asking this question, unfortunately we are a makeup brand and don’t specialise in wigs, so we wouldn’t be able to give you tons of advice on this subject.

We have a guest blog with a fellow business owner on our profile about securing wigs and how to keep cool during the warmer weather, which you can find here.

However, I can see lots of your fellow members have provided some useful tips, so hopefully you’ll find your answer! 🙂
