I got over my COVID scare and got a doctor’s note to allow me to return to work last Sunday. Unfortunately on my first day back I slipped on a patch of ice hidden beneath a fresh dusting of snow, turned in the air and came down hard on my left side facing in the direction I just came from. After a moment or two to collect myself I slowly and carefully get up with my left shoulder in pain, rendering me unable to raise my arm much at all. I did try to deliver to a few more houses but between the pain and the worsening road conditions as it continued to snow I had to pull over and call the dispatcher. After another driver came to take the rest of my route off my hands I carefully drove back to the office through the snow with effectively one and a half arms, then was brought to an urgent care clinic for x-rays. The physician assistant said it was a displaced fracture of my distal clavicle, but referred me to an orthopedic specialist. When that doctor examined me the next day and looked at my x-rays he came to another conclusion: a torn rotator cuff. How serious can only be determined by an MRI, which will be forthcoming this week. I’m on light duty as part of my workers comp for the foreseeable future.

Getting dressed with just one good arm is a bit of a chore, so dressing up as Christine is on the back burner until my shoulder improves. I’m still wearing panties, of course, but putting on a bra requires both arms to flex normally and my forms will get in the way of the sling I have to wear to keep my left arm immobile so that my shoulder can heal. As time goes along I hope that elements of Christine will be phased back in, but for now I have to follow the rehab regimen and be patient.

Christine, OUCH!! Feel so sorry for you I wish you a speedy recovery. I had rotator cuff surgery and I will be honest, it was a lengthy recovery for me. The good news is that my arm is working. Take care Hugs – Katey

      Hi Christine.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I have torn my rotator cuff on both shoulders. Very very painful. My accident was from roller blading. I got side swipped by a car. Landed with hands first and elbows locked. Blew one rotator out and tore the other. Long recovery. You learn to do things with the other hand. Almost became ambidextrous.

Hope you have a speedy recovery

Be patient, do what the doctors say to get better, take it easy, and let your body heal. That’s the thing. You’ll get back to being you soon enough.

The MRI showed that I do indeed have a torn rotator cuff as well as bone spurs in my collar bone. To be specific, the top middle two tendons of the four that collectively make up the cuff were detached and pushed back. To correct this I will require arthroscopic surgery, followed by several weeks of rehab. Not fun.

Christine… pull up soft bras are good! Can you still apply your lippy and stuff? If you can… you’re more than halfway there!
Luckily, I have a supportive wife who would help me dress. She did when I ripped my shoulder joint out… had crushed ribs, collarbone in bits… what a trooper!
I you can get even halfway dressed then you are dressed… heels help!

        Best wishes xxx Polly

Workers comp finally green lighted the surgery so I now finally have a date: Wednesday 24 March. I have to go in the week before to be fitted for the device that will stabilize my shoulder afterwards, then I have to take a rapid COVID-19 test 2-3 days prior.

I dared to go out dressed for the day despite my injury, which even included a return visit to the dentist…a female dentist at that! I say return visit because I had to make an emergency visit last week because a molar that chipped several weeks ago started to hurt, so she found that there was a deep cavity that became infected. She prescribed ibuprofen for the pain along with an antibiotic for the infection and asked me to return today once the swelling went down for a proper cleaning and exam. She also referred me to an oral surgeon to extract what’s left of the tooth in question but the earliest they have a consultation open is 1 April. After today’s cleaning, exam and X-rays a couple other problems were brought to my attention that will need to be dealt with in the form of crowns, but my present insurance doesn’t cover them so I had to go online this evening to upgrade it. After my appointment I did some shopping and went home.

Anyway, my outfit for the day was a rust/gold colored button down August Max silk blouse and black Lane Bryant slacks over a beige nylon Olga bra (filled out with my forms) and high cut panties, with black ankle booties over nude nylon knee highs. Since there was a breeze outside despite being above 50F/10C outside I had to carefully put on my light brown Liz Claiborne overcoat with only my right arm in its proper sleeve because my left is in a sling. Somehow I made it work but it was a bit of work.

Had a productive afternoon and also got a chance to go out in some of my more recent additions to my wardrobe. The best news is that I managed to secure an appointment on Tuesday for my first COVID-19 vaccination. On a related note I later went for a rapid test and came back negative.

I went out for the afternoon all in leopard print: a slightly opaque top from Torrid over a beige Catherine’s bra filled out with my forms, a matching pair of mules also from Torrid, a darker shade of leopard print jeans over a pair of Vanity Fair nylon leopard print high cut panties and brown knee highs, and since the weather was unseasonably warm today I didn’t need to wear a coat. I did some grocery shopping, had my COVID-19 test and walked through the local mall, then went to have dinner. I did receive a few nice comments along the way, which is good. Tomorrow it’s back to work, or what is for the foreseeable future considered work until my shoulder is fixed and back up to strength.

Got my first Moderna jab last week. I had them put it in my left arm, the one already in a sling, so whatever pain resulted could be managed. It was at the big stadium where the local MLS and NFL teams normally play and the whole operation ran smoothly.

Today is post-op Day One. The surgery went well but now the difficult initial phase of my recovery begins. My left arm is now immobilized in a sling and a hip pad to keep my shoulder at a 15 degree angle. The nerve block they injected into me is still holding for now, so I’ve taken nothing stronger than Tylenol so far. I also have to ice it down repeatedly. This will be my situation for the next few days.

Underdressing will be the norm for the time being as I’m in a t-shirt and sweats, and then only my Cacique cotton panties until I can move around more freely. My post-op follow up visit is a week from Friday.

      Post-op Day Two:

I was scheduled for light duty in the office today, but given that my arm is still trussed up and it’s uncertain when the nerve block would wear off driving anywhere was not advisable. I did change my socks and panties for the first time since the procedure and used the mobile deposit on my credit union’s app to deposit my stimulus check so I’m fine for now. It has been unseasonably warm here the past couple of days, not that I could do more than sit out on the front porch for a few minutes, but it should cool off over the weekend to where it should be in late March: 47F/8C.

      Post-op Day Three:

Some sensation has begun to return to my shoulder and with it has come the first twinge of pain. So far it’s still manageable with ice packs and Tylenol and I had slept more or less comfortably last night. Let’s see if that repeats itself tonight. Tomorrow I need to take my first shower since the procedure and put on a fresh set of comfortable clothes beneath my sling and immobilizer; aside from changing my socks and panties I’ve been in the same t-shirt and sweats since Wednesday. Washing myself with just one arm will be a challenge but it has to happen. It will also be an opportunity to check on how my sutures are healing and change the dressing. Hoping things continue to go well.

      Post-op Day Six:

I woke up mid-morning, changed my socks and panties and put on a pair of white Lane Bryant shorts instead of my sweatpants as it was supposed to get above 15C/60F today because for the first time since the surgery I decided to get behind the wheel of my car. For today I only chose to go as far as the closest supermarket and back, tying in a couple other stops along the way, just to see how I can adapt to driving one handed. Sufficiently stocked up on essentials for now I’m back to relaxing at home. Thursday I need to have my consult with the oral surgeon regarding my broken tooth and on Friday I go back to my orthopedic surgeon for a follow up.

      Post-op Day 34:

I realize that I haven’t been posting updates on my rehab lately so I’ve come to rectify that. My physical therapy sessions have been going well and I’m slowly regaining range of motion in my shoulder. I still have the adduction pillow in place below my sling but hopefully I’ll be losing that soon. I’m still on light duty at work but they have me coming in earlier, around the time of morning when I would be reporting when I was still delivering, in order to help the dispatcher get the other drivers set up for the day’s routes, then once they’re gone I fill the rest of the day sorting papers and cleaning, with an occasional trip to bring one of the vans to the shop for an oil change or to have new tires mounted.

I purposely scheduled my physical therapy sessions for my days off and in order for them to work on my shoulder I have to show up in a tank top, but afterwards I usually change out of it. For a few of those days, including yesterday, I would finish out dressed from neck to toe entirely in female attire, but keeping my current physical limitations in mind. I haven’t shaved off my body hair since before the accident and only yesterday was I able to reach down with my left hand to carefully clip my toenails, but I did go to the Lane Bryant Outlet store in skinny jeans (20W) and scoop neck top (2X) from Modcloth, black trouser socks and black ballet flats, a black nylon size 8 thong and a pink with black lace nylon Cacique bra (44DD) filled out with my forms. While there I picked up a few more pairs of nylon panties and thongs along with two pairs of slip shorts and a tan pair of Dream Cloud faux suede espadrille wedges: the latter I changed into and wore the rest of the day.

Last Thursday for the first time since before the accident I went in to the Red Cross to donate platelets. They were concerned for how comfortable I would be doing it barely a month post-op but it went well. It is now also two weeks since my 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccine so I should be in the clear, although I’ll still be masked up as much as possible for everyone’s peace of mind. Ever so gradually things are returning to normal.

      Post-op Day 43:

My rehab has progressed to the point where I can ditch the adduction pillow and can spend extended periods without my sling. I’m pretty close to getting rid of the sling as well. With more range of motion in my shoulder Christine has emerged from her hibernation, although I have to change before and after my therapy sessions since A) my therapist is a woman and I don’t want to shock her and B) working on my shoulder requires that I wear a tank top for ease of access. Still with that I was able to use the fitting room at my local Torrid and try on a couple of skinny pants and a shiny metallic skirt, ultimately settling on the latter as well as the leopard print pants and 3 pairs of nylon thongs with lace trim. I even signed up for the rewards program and the ladies at that store were super nice.

As the weather gets warmer, venues open back up from COVID-19 restrictions and my healing progresses my moments as Christine will become more frequent. For one thing I’ll finally be able to use the Six Flags season pass that I bought during a fall 2019 promotional sale: the rides at the one nearest me will reopen this weekend although I’ll wait until next month when they’re open midweek before I make a reservation and go out as Christine. I now have more incentive to continue to endure my physical therapy sessions.

      Post-op Day 50:

Tomorrow is my second follow up with the doctor who performed my surgery, and at today’s therapy session I was complimented on my progress so far. I’ve now ditched the sling and have more range of motion in my left shoulder but they still advise against lifting anything heavier than a sack of groceries with it since the strengthening exercises haven’t been worked into my routine yet. Even with that I am able to go out fully dressed after my sessions and have added to my wardrobe as well. I’ve used up all of the welcome coupons from Torrid’s rewards program and I have an order being processed that will be shipped to my local store, whose staff are amazing, by the way.

Next week I have some Lane Bryant Real Women Dollars to spend, both saved from my most recent trip as well as en route to me from an ebay auction on the cheap. I also have discounted gift cards for there at the ready, so hopefully I’ll get plenty of nice things.

      Post-op day 55:

My follow up with the surgeon last Friday was brief. He’s encouraged by my progress so far and hopes that when next I see him in 6 weeks I’ll be able to comfortably raise my arm above my head. My therapy sessions have started to include some strengthening exercises to allow my shoulder to begin bearing weight again. There’s still a ways to go but I’m hopeful.

Tuesday right after my morning therapy session I decided to let Christine out for the day, so on top of the pink flower print Cacique nylon panties and white lace top thigh highs I was already wearing I filled out a light pink wireless nylon Vanity Fair bra, then put on a pink and white Justice short sleeve top and a Hot Topic pink corduroy skirtall…basically a skirt held up with by a front and straps just like a pair of overalls…and black sandals. To complete the effect I chose my shoulder length brown wig, a pink stone bracelet and matching clip on earrings and pink press on nails. I then drove for an hour to a Lane Bryant to begin using some of my Real Women Dollars and gift cards. I had also put on a white slip but the lacy hem kept peeking out and it was unusually warm that day so when I went to try on a pair of skinny jeans (which I didn’t end up getting as they weren’t quite my size) I pulled off the slip and stuffed it in my brown leather purse. I ended up getting 8 pairs of nylon briefs and 2 nylon thongs, a tank top and a pair of white snakeskin wedge sandals which I wore for the rest of the afternoon. Next I went across the plaza to Torrid and found a ring with a flexible band that fit along with a bracelet. After a quick stop for refreshments from a 7-Eleven I hit up Savers for a couple of cardigans, a set of nylon pajamas, a sheer black blouse and a couple of knit tops, then I finished the afternoon with  a quick stroll through the mall closest to my house. All told Christine had a productive and enjoyable afternoon and looked cute doing it.

I realize that it’s been awhile since I posted any updates on this thread so I’ve come to correct that oversight, especially in light of more recent events.

My recovery from my left shoulder surgery in March has progressed tremendously due to my diligence in following my therapist’s advice. Two months before I was cleared, however, I had an unrelated setback.

August 11th marked the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic that I took the opportunity to both go into Boston and see a Red Sox game in person. It was a warm, humid night and they were playing Tampa Bay, who they ended up blitzing by something like 21-9 or some such lopsided score. That actually was the highlight of my night, as afterwards when I was descending into the subway station to start on my way home I stumbled on the last step and instinctively grabbed the railing to my right to keep from falling. Unfortunately I did so with enough force that I jammed my shoulder. When I finally was able to get through the hoops and see an orthopedic surgeon he gave me the bad news: my right shoulder would have to be operated on because of another torn rotator cuff.

I am now 20 days post op from that surgery and was able to get back this past week to my new assignment at work: greeting the drivers at the end of their routes, inspecting the vans, ensuring that they’ve signed out and returned the phones and van keys, returning the equipment to the office after the last driver, plugging in the phones, laying out the key pouches, preparing the end of day report and locking the office. Today I plan to go out for my COVID-19 booster shot and am doing so dressed for the first time since the surgery since the weather is unseasonably warm for early November: peach colored Lane Bryant short sleeved sweater over a black nylon front hook bra and forms, distressed Rue 21 skinny jeans over a pair of  purple tie-dye size 18/20 Justice hipsters and ankle socks beneath the cutest pair of Torrid size 13 black PU sweater stacked heel hiker booties…and a sling on my right arm. All I can do with my shoulder for rehab for the next few weeks is doing pendulum motions while bent at at 90 degree angle so that it doesn’t get stiff. My next follow up is just after Thanksgiving when he should advice me to begin physical therapy on it. Given my new hours at work I probably won’t make the next Central Mass Misses outing in the new year: I went dressed up to the first one back in September in Worcester and I had a nice time meeting the other half dozen or so who came out.

After over 2 years in limbo following the passing of our landlord my housemates and I have a new owner to deal with. He plans to begin fixing up the house in a few weeks which for me means moving to the other side of the duplex. Given that my right shoulder is still healing such a move, even though short in distance, will be a huge undertaking as I require assistance. I therefore felt it necessary to confess to the young housemate I’ll be sharing the other side with my crossdressing obsession. He’s cool with that, especially since he has a medical condition that despite his youth obliges him to wear adult diapers, so we’re OK with the arrangement. I have to start having stuff moved across this week so it will be a very busy 3 days.
