So I am curious, how did you girls go about selecting your name? Names are very personal, so I bet there are some interesting stories that could reveal a bit about you just from something as simple as your name.
Both my names, Kelly and English, are from my family tree. My legal middle name is Kelly so that was easy. In fact I was called Kelly as a child until my fifth grade teacher started calling me by my first name. My family still calls me Kelly.
My relationship with that name is a whole other saga!

Diane was my first crush/first love.

When I began crossdressing and needed to think of a name for my girly side, my brain froze. I had absolutely no idea what name I should give myself. In the end, after a few days, my name just evolved and isn’t very original.

When Terri first ventured out with friends in public, they went to ‘safe’ places like gay/lesbian bars. A bit hard of hearing in crowds, she picked a name that sounds like her male name.
Jerry, Terry. Garry, Terri, pretty much the same.
No former girlfriend that I’m aware of.

Kelly, for me I don’t remember all the details since I am using the name I came up with in 1980 & 81 when I was into CD hard for 2 or 3 years. The name Cassandra Joyce Jayson, Cassandra was a character from where I don’t remember. Joyce, because the name contained Joy made me happy. And Jayson contains my middle male name Jay.

I always liked the name Rebecca from a girl I knew when I was little, she was so cute!!! When my first daughter was born I wanted to name her Rebecca so bad, but my x wife hated that name, didn’t know she lived by me back then she might have known her. LOL When I joined CDH it asked for a name. I would use my name when I would order clothes from the Sears and Penny’s catalog years ago………

When I went to college/university, my classmate’s name was Wendy. She was an awesome dresser, it seemed like whatever she wore she totally rocked it and she had a tendency to match outfits well.
The last name is from Taylor Swift; I’m a huge Swifty, plus she is also an amazing dresser. She dresses very elegant, dresses to the 9s, plus attracts attention no matter where she goes.

Lots of names here I like, and some I’ve used on other sites (before I came here!), but for this one I picked Chloë because I have been a fan of Chloë Sevigny for a long time. I just don’t use the umlaut as much as I should (neither having an easy to get to ‘copy and paste’ or doing the 5 key addition). And the surname (C for Cameron) was just something that came to me when I was thinking about it, and I like alliteration, besides how it just seems to flow smoothly.
Hugs, ChloëC

Well, I’m not too sure what my mom had in mind when she gave me the name Lauren, she’s gone now so I can’t ask her, but that is my real name. It always caused me a few problems growing up and in school. Being quite small and feminine with a girl’s first name was a recipe for being a target for bullies, and that happened a lot.
Oh well, it works beautifully now…:)- July 24, 2022 at 10:06 am #665021Anonymous
Lauren was a man’s name in a time long ago. Perhaps a relative of Mom’s and she liked it.

Hi Eileen, that could be, It’s possible the change happened when Lauren Bacall became a famous movie star. I don’t mind it at all now, and I didn’t have to dream up a female name. 🙂
Thanks,
Lauren M.

Wiki almost accurate says Lauren was originally a male name. Then the popularity of Lauren Bacall, married to Humphry Bogart. Great movies they made together. She was beautiful! let’s go with her as your Mother’s inspiration.

I’ve used several names over the years but use the female version of my male name here on CDH. I think Michelle is a lovely name but its so common sometimes I think of changing it to something more unique. It has to be a feminine name and one which I don’t know anyone in life by that name. Until then I’m Michelle.

I’ve always liked the name Kimberly, it’s kind of a sweet name. Where did the Bee come from? I’ve no idea

Great topic!
I was cross dressing early on at a very young age, under the watchful eyes of two young women who lived across the street from me. When dressed as a girl, they called me by a variation of my male name. However, as I entered my preteen years, they encouraged me to one day pick a pretty female name carefully that I would stay with. As a teenager in the early 60s, I picked Peggy Sue, because it was a popular name in the American south, a time when girls dressed and acted very effeminately. I still associate dressing as Peggy Sue back then with wide poodle skirts, wide waist belts, petticoats, stockings, garter belts or Playtex girdles, bullet bras, red lipstick, tons of foundation, and red rouge.
A name can bring back many memories! I have never felt a need to change mine.
- July 24, 2022 at 4:04 pm #665105
Thank you for the reply Peggy Sue, Buddy Holly liked the name too! You were so lucky having two friends like that! Wow, that would have been a dream!

my female name came from a girl i liked when i was in school. Lucinda. so i stuck with it for i loved her but never asked her to marry me. been cross dressing for many years, my wife knows i do and tells me when i can dress up, but will not help with make up or see me even tho she has seen me getting dressed up and seen me dressed up but will not let me sit in same room and watch T.V.

Susan is the name of a lifelong friend. She was a high school and college cheerleader and always looked so elegant and beautiful in her outfit. I was always super jealous of her. As for Talbot I love their dresses.

I chose my name as a pun to remind me that I was still a male. My name can be nicknamed Al, so I chose Alison (Al is (a) son). The question then came as to how to spell it. Ideally I would have gone with Alisson, but that spelling is very rare, and much more often used as a surname than a first name. The more frequent spelling Allison to me reads All is son (double usage on the s) which is not what I wanted. So I went with Alison, which, when double using the s, reads how I wanted it. But the name has stuck with me, and although I know the pun is there, I don’t really hear it.
My last name Anderson was chosen from the street I grew up on for my early years.

I had a very good friend in college named Sandy. She was my best friend and she knew I loved wearing women’s clothing and had no issue with it. We would go shopping together and do girly things. She even let me wear her panties and some of her other clothes when I was at her apartment. I never looked at her as a girlfriend but I loved her none the less and wonder where she is today. She had a big impact on my life.

I chose Nancy 25ish years ago mainly because I did not know anyone named Nancy so it had no specific female connotation. I think if I could do it over I would go with Jennifer but its way too late to change it now. The last name is a reference to my love of women’s legs.

It was so easy! My name is Hal, and the first time I dressed completely…wig, forms, real clothes…I knew the girl looking back at me from the mirror was Haley. She was me in a female form…

Hi Kelly! I was lucky enough to have parents that were kind enough to give me a name easily feminized. Older brother was named Ralph, that would have been harder to work with. Steve to Stevie is so much easier – thanks mom!!
And one name is so much simpler, and appropriate. My femme name is NOT an alias, it’s me!!
The second name is just a fun expression of my love of beer and German heritage, lol.
Stevie!

Hi Kelly,
My first name Trish is kind of an off shoot of my real name Pat and some kids would call me Patricia as a joke. Then when I began dressing totally as a girl the middle part of Patricia is of course Trish which I thought was a very nice feminine name so that’s who I decided to be. I’ve loved it ever since.

Hi Kelly,
I remember seeing a couple of classy women in television media back in the 90’s named Lara. I thought what a cool name for a woman. It’s quite close to my male name, and that made me think it would be a great name if I were a woman. Funny, because I didn’t have this desire at that time.
I also thought Tucker was a good name, like the short lived car company many years ago, and then it had a slightly humorous aspect for the first 5-10 seconds after I thought of it, being a CD. 😏💕Lara

Many years ago I started to call myself Dianne which I always thought was a nice name for a girl. At some point I wanted something a little more “femme” & I chose Charlotte. Some time after that I met a couple whose wife was named Charlotte. She was unfortunately very ill with a chronic disease & every time I used that name I thought of her so I decided to keep looking. Was watching a TV show & saw a very attractive middle-aged actress I had never seen before and when I saw her name “Fiona” roll by in the credits, it just clicked. It’s been Fiona ever since.

I took mine from the lines of the Stevie Nicks song Welcome to the room….Sara from the Fleetwood Mac album Tango in the Night.
The chorus goes:
“Oh I see
Welcome to the room, Sara, for Scarlett
Welcome to the choir, sir”She used the name Sara as a pseudonym for her own name.It just seemed right.- This reply was modified 1 year ago by Sara Scarlet.

My name is a three fold combination. A company that I worked for used to send me manufacturing and production samples that were addressed to Man Produ. I got tons of things addressed to me that way so much so that I actually recognized it as my own name. After I accepted my Intersex Condition, I realized that it would be much easier if I had a feminine name to go along with it. So, Man became Marg after Marg Helgenberger who is an actress that I admired. She played a CSI in Las Vegas, a city that I loved to work and play in, plus I’m a scientist. Produ got changed to Produe after some people started to misinterpret it as prod you (not what I had in mind). So that’s the basis for my name that I have used for many years. Thanks Kelly for this interesting topic.
Marg Produe

Hi Kelly. How I came to my full fem name, it was a work in progress for many years. Came across Rachel in my late 20’s and it has stuck with me ever since. It was only 2017 that I added both middle and last names. Middle name (Karana) came from my favorite book as a kid, “Island Of The Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’Dell. Karana was the main character of the book. And I’ve always loved that name. Too exotic for a first name, but perfect for middle. Last name (Williams) is my male middle name, just without the “S”.

I hadn’t thought about a female name for myself until I went to sign in here at CDH. I did spend some time on it and am happy to say that my name still fits and feels right.
I chose Olivia from a strong attractive character played by Mariska Hargitay on TV. I still like her too lol.
I chose Livin because she is in fact living in and through me everyday.
Olivia

A great topic!
I used Jenny as it was a name that one of my old work colleagues jokingly called me when I was a young man, as I had grown my hair long, and tied it back in a pony tail. I took no offence, it was funny. This was long before any CD tendencies, but I recalled it to mind more recently, so it stuck. My real name begins with a J also….
as for my surname, when I signed up for CDH, I had to think……it took me about 20 seconds! I like “sheer” pantyhose / tights so just added the “ness” to make it sound like a full surname!
and so Jenny came into being and has stuck, and I like it!
Hugs.
Jen. 😀

All of your names are so lovely. I picked Cheri, pronounced (Cher-ee with an emphasis on the ee). It sounds so French and sexy to me. The last name Carrington, is obviously from Dynasty. I especially like the newer version of Dynasty on Netflix. All of the women on Dynasty are so sexy, but Fallon Carrington dresses so sexy with her short skirts, and the house is magnificent.

Thanks Kelly for starting this topic. This subject is one of my personal favorites. In fact, awhile back I started topics about my name anniversary, and whether or not you have a nickname? Our femme name is very important because it identifies who we are. I always felt an intense amount of enjoyment when crossdressing, hence why I chose the name “Revel” and I chose my femme name on June 11, 2019. I love it. This word/name radiates how I feel. I also love my nickname “Rev” as well. 🙂

Hi Kelly,
I took Tara after hearing a song of that name on the Roxy Music album Avalon, it is is a beautiful instrumental song with a lovely oboe sound. The name Ryan is the maiden name of my Irish grandmother who I was close to growing up.
Love,

Hi Kelly,
I chose Joanne in honor of my cousin. We were born on the same day and i always thought how lucky she was to be the girl. Okay, i was jealous she got to be the girl and i wanted to be her. As for Jackson, well, sound it out. 🤔
Thanks for asking.

My name came from back in my college days where i dressed often for parties and then some. I always wore very nice and shiny pantyhose to make my legs look their sexy best. Some girls would tease me and call me Panty Hose.
Then at one of the parties they gave me a name tag that said Panty Hose. Then one time the ‘n’ was written small and it looked like Paty Hose. After that I just decided it would be fun to be Patty Hose, or even Patty Pantyhose. But that didn’t seem to work to well, so I began calling myself Patty Phose as short for pantyhose.
Yes I know, silly and stupid story but it was for fun and keeping with my passion for wearing pantyhose and showing my legs in them.

Hi Patty girl never a silly or stupid story as this was your life its part of who you are a wonderful girl he he ..

My wife chose my name for me. I didn’t have a choice, she told me from now on your name is Jennifer Lynn

My name choice, I guess one could say, is odd. You see it seems I have a thing for the name Lisa. Starting in high school and going thru college I had 3 serious relationships. All were named Lisa! Of course when those relationship were over I took on the name of Lisa. Only one was really special and lasted the longest, 3 years. So I kinda took my monicker from her. In my soul I kinda wished if I wasn’t me, I wish I could of been her. She was my true love and heart breaker in the end.
Leigh is in honor of the fabulous Miss Vivian Leigh. Her looks were magnificent! She could play a woman that was so sweet, and on a dime turn into the devil! Always protecting her womanhood. After all tomorrow is another day! - July 31, 2022 at 6:47 am #666441

Hi Kelly
When joining CDH was the first time I had to pick a name and after some thinking I decided to not go with some ultra feminine name but with a unisex name. And just to confuse people more I did the same for the last name so if I feel like it I can be Terry Kelly as well as Kelly Terry.

Mine came fe from a woman named Catherine who came to our house on the way to a formal ball. She looked stunning and I took her name from then on
She was wearing a gorgeous Apricot chiffon gown, hair and make up just perfect. I guess thats why I ended up with a similar dress

When you are born you are given a name. Sometimes a middle name and may even absorb a nickname. I’ve me more than one person with the same name and they are never alike. Overall, it’s funny how names circulate. Names popular 50 years ago are popular now. And different cultures have names others might never consider.
When you are “re-born” as most of us are we may have a first name but the “sir name” (hmmm)? CONFIRMED Mine was more of a statement.
AS TO Kylie? It just popped into my head and I am she.
All of this gives me an idea for a story or even a book. You are born with an assigned name… look for more on this?

I chose my name to honor my Aunt Kathryn. She was a very classy woman, wife of an Army Brigadier General who commanded an armored unit in Vietnam. I remember welcoming them to Los Angles Intl Airport, back in – – 1954, or thereabouts, following a tour of duty in Japan. As they walked down the stairs from that huge aircraft, Uncle El in his uniform and she, dressed to the nines, wearing a beautiful dress, heels and a way cute hat. Never mind they had just ended a 13 hour flight. What a classy lady! She was always an example of a beautiful, graceful woman. Kind, thoughtful, and engaging, even with a young kid like me. I admired her then, and when I am dressed as Kathy, I often think of her.

For me I feel my name kind of chose me. It was 4-5 years ago (though it feels longer than that!) when my femme side was getting so much stronger and I was dressing up more often, more thoroughly and I started feeling “she” needed a name. Then the name “Amy” just came into my head the next day!
I thought about several others over the next couple of days, but nothing felt as right as this one.
It is still a bit strange as I don’t know any Amy’s and I don’t have any feminine idols by that name, it is just me.
However, if I knew what the female name my parents must have had chosen for me I would have adopted that, but my Mom never told me, and I never asked, why would I have? Now everyone who might have known are long gone. My own Mom has been gone nearly 30 years now.
For those who believe in these things, perhaps “Amy” was on their list of names for the new baby back in the early 50’s, and that’s why I’m now her.
My Mother always wanted a girl, but life gave her only me and I’d love to tell her that she has something of a daughter anyway.
Amy

Hi Kelly,
It took me a long time to find a female name I really liked. When I was in college, I studied plant science and worked part time in a nursery. I always liked flowers, and I wanted a female name that was tied to flowers. I went by Rose, but I really didn’t like it very much, but it worked at the time. When social media became popular, I needed an email username. Rose just didn’t get it. I got out my old botany text book and searched for a female flower name that also started with an R like my male name. I ran across a genus of plants named Roella…bingo. In the Roella genus is a species named Roella ciliata. It has beautiful bluish purple blooms, so I adopted the name Roella Flowers. My cover page has a picture of Roella flowers as the background. I know it sounds nerdy, but one look at a picture of these beautiful blooms and you can see it was well worth the search.

My childhood nickname (Jin) came about because semi-illiterate rednecks did not know how to spell ‘Djinn’. I was known for popping in and out of groups without notice. And like Aladdin’s story, they found if they rubbed me the right way, they got a present!
My advice to others is to ask their Mothers what their name would have been if born with girl parts.
- August 19, 2022 at 7:42 am #671066
Names – a subject as high as the sky, as deep as the sea… I’ve used many different names in the past, usually either to fit my view of the world, especially the areas I am most interested in, or to honour one or another of the beautiful ladies I see out there. I’m sure that there are quite a few ladies out there who will figure out my current identity (and as I say in my profile, I’m NOT her – though I wish I could be!) A name is inevitably very personal, but I always feel that the girl doesn’t choose the name; the name chooses the girl. There will always be something that calls to the soul and just seems to fit so well! Mother Nature and the Universe made us this way – they send our names to us as well. Holly (which fits me perfectly!) XXX
