I’m going to share with you my story about my day at a TJ Maxx store. Just keep in mind I’m no writer and I’m just a man telling his story.
On August 31, 2023, I blew 10 bucks at a TJ Maxx store. I was there looking for a birthday gift for my granddaughter-in-law. I walked over to where they had dresses. You know, just to look at the clearance selection. I saw this dress that just screamed ” Buy Me Now” and it was only ten bucks.
So, I went to the fitting room, and it fit perfectly. I’m sitting there in front of the mirror doing the swaying and spinning around thing you do when you wear a dress. Here I am, just falling in love with this simple dress. I don’t believe that I have ever wanted a dress this bad before, and I was going through I had to have it kinda thing.
So, I took it up front and paid for it. But this time, I did something I had never done before. I asked them if I could go back to the fitting room and put the dress on and wear it out of the store.
I bet they all wanted to take a picture as this big hairy, bearded man walked out of the store wearing a satin casual dress, carrying his purse and shopping bag.
I finally felt real freedom. I had done something I wanted to do, like forever. Get this, I had no fear whatsoever. I just did it like I was meant to wear it. Talk about how cool is that! To not have any fear whatsoever, and I did it without the help of any alcoholic beverage. Like my first time in public as a CD in the 1980s. (Talk about how times have changed)
And I did this without having to be girly or anything. I was the real masculine, androgynous, crossdressing me. I was myself, the real me. I can’t even put my joy into words about how this really made me feel.
I spent the rest of my day in that dress. I went to three cities doing my running around and doing my errands. People all day asked me if I’d lost a bet or dare. Some even wanted their picture taken with me. It made me feel a little famous. I loved all this positive attention I was getting.
I haven’t felt this happy and free in a long time. It proved today that you don’t need to look female to enjoy wearing a dress and be outdoors in public view.
I’m so freaking stoked that I finally made it to this point in my life. I just had to come to Crossdresser Heaven and scream out this accomplishment of mine.
Hippie
P.S.
Venus (My Wife) loves the dress too and she has threatened to steal it from me.
That’s awesome! So glad you had this experience. You rock!
welcome and i bet you were in heaven. i cross dressed a few times, going to a Buffalo Bells meeting, then i had my niece do my make up for me for Halloween i was thrilled that she did this for me, but going downstairs with the in laws house they all looked at me and said why do you want to be dressed up as a female. ah dah Halloween!!! i have not stopped since dressing up, i under dress when i can and go out and no one can see me wearing a dress bra and nylons and… Read more »
So happy for you Hippie! You may have found what we are all are looking for. The freedom to be who ever you want to be. Congratulations
AnnaBeth
Plus I like being different then everyone else. I was never one to beat to the same drum as everyone else
Congratulations. I am so happy for you. That takes so much courage to do that. You should be proud to do something you feel so happy about. Good for you. Enjoy
I been more public even more since that day.
My chest hair and beard go along for the ride. I was told that I’m a rare crossdresser. Meaning I don’t have the need to impersonate the female gender. I was told I am Androgynous Masculine Crossdresser.
Enjoyed your article and your courage. I do not have the nerve to shop for female stuff. I do all that shopping on Amazon.
Want to know something, I don’t have the courage to shop on-line if that makes you feel any better. Sure I have shopped on-line a handful of times, but never felt comfortable with my banking information used on-line.
Maybe I was raised with Sears, JC Penny’s and mall crowds.
I always liked shopping in physical stores
In the US, you do have security services, such as virtual credit cards, that are not available to the rest of the world.
I never heard of a virtual credit cards, I’m basically a cash only person. So what is this virtual credit cards thing you talked about.
Since you want security, look into virtual cards. They are a card representing your credit card, like a go-between. All a scammer can see is what the virtual card shows (not your real card’s details), but your own transactions still get validated by any retailer you use. Some virtual cards can also be set up with restrictions, such as one-time use, too. It’s a big world out there with lots of good services, today. Credit cards are so useful, especially on-line, so there is no need to be afraid when using the right technology. As far as I know, we… Read more »
How motivating! I think to some degree, we will or have experienced that “snapping” moment where, enough is enough and ready or not here I come! I love the courage and don’t-give-a-damn attitude. Thanks for sharing.
That is incredible! I got teary as I read your article. I’ve tried on dresses and so much more in stores but never dared to wear a purchase out of the store. Now I can’t think of anything I want to do more! So happy for you and appreciate you sharing this.
I don’t know what it was. I just had to do it.
Just the other day I went back to the same store wearing a skirt.
The employees treated me like I was a celebrity. I felt famous
Now since that day. I now get an employee discount when I shop there and I’m not an employee.
Talk about some kewl A$$ DoDo. All this special treatment just because I wore a dress out of their store
Truly. Fabulous!
I would love to see a picture of the magic dress too! :). You had me at “satin”!
Well I don’t have account, but what I can do is tell you about the dress the best I can.
Its a Nicole Miller of New York brand dress
Satin Maxi dress with pockets.
On eBay that very dress is almost a 100 bucks, like 89.99
They come in lots of patterns, watercolors, abstract, tropical, color bars, Aztec and more.
There sizes go from extra small to extra large
I now own 5 of them
OK, not to be annoying or anything, but what’s next for you?
We all have hurdles of one kind or another, and you just cleared a high one. As I related yesterday, I saw a man in a dress with a 7″ beard, so these hurdles can be jumped.
To be comfortable daily wearing wearing anything I want to wear.
The only thing is that I can’t beat is wearing high heel shoes.
I tried a few pairs and they are not comfortable and hurt the snot out my feet.
I tried size up, a size down, extra wide. I think my problem is that they don’t make half sizes when you go above size 10 and you can’t try them on at local stores.
They are on-line only and I really really hate shopping on-line
There are currently, 9 DSW shoe stores in Wisconsin. You can try on shoes there. Also see if you can find a Rockport store or carrier. They have large/wide sizes. So do Clark’s.
Good luck!
There are even more Torrid stores in WI, too.
So happy for your being able to what makes you happy and feel free to be yourself. Something hit home with me in your comment about asking if to be allowed to “Put in the dress and wear it home”. I have wanted to do the same thing, but as I was considering who to ask, I came to the realization that, it was only my permission that was necessary. Of course I have gotten some looks and a few blank stares, but have come to the conclusion that my credit card is ticket to purchasing what I want, when… Read more »
Oh who to ask. I just remember when I was kid and trying on sneakers at Kmart or Sears. My grandma or my aunt would asked the sales clerk if I could wear them home. The sales clerk just cut the tag off the shoes and take the tag up front to check out. So a childhood experience got me thinking. Why can’t I wear this dress out the front door. So when I was paying for it. I just asked if I can go back to the fitting room and put it on. Sure I got some strange looks… Read more »
Love it! I’m so glad you have been able to enjoy yourself.
I think it’s important for those of us who are brave enough or comfortable with presenting as we please, to do it, so that people know we exist and and deserve to be out in the open, confidently,
