In the late 70’s my older sister had a small seamstress business making short run and custom garments. I maintained the sewing and surging (over locking) machines as well as other mechanical equipment and often used to help out with machining during busy periods. My cooking apron had seen better days and the recently purchased replacement was too small and so poorly put together I decided to sew my own. Not just a simple utility item but a complete 18th Century white linen pinafore style complete with added ruffles, bows and mob cap.

In the closet from first memories. After being told off several times as a child dressing in my sisters clothing l soon realised, if I wanted to continue it would have to be my secret. That was around 60 years ago. I now have a wonderful partner who activity encourages my hobby. I cannot pass at all so I hardly ever venture out in public. Long drives at night on my own are the most I come to public mixing when I stop for fuel at a remote automated station.
