One of the things about dressing all on your own is not having other ideas coming in to check your impulses. Looking back, I think this (and sales, and late nights) has a lot to do with how I ended up with this same dress--the venerable Lindy Bop Madison--in 4 different colors. This peach color was my first and favorite, but I shredded the delicate sheer on the first wear, and when I went back to replace it there were no more sizes and I had to get a different color. The awesome color palette this dress was offered in created a 3 way tie for second place, and I was so hooked on the silhouette after the replacement came in, that over the course of a few final sales the 'why not, its now or never' logic prevailed rather easily, when maybe it shouldnt have. Despite Champagne, China Rose, and Ink Blue, my periodic searches for the elusive Pale Peach continued with no luck at all until earlier this summer when I ran across it on poshmark. Because nothing is ever easy, I was up quite late sewing the hem of the peplum skirt in two spots with a needle and a scrap of unraveled thread in order to have it ready in time for a long awaited wear on a zoom call. Which was in every way divine. Who knows maybe someday I'll find one in Coral? Or better yet, a mint green brocade Audrey. I miss Lindy.

I'm a happily married, 40+ suburbanite who spends nearly all of my time doing fairly typically suburbanite things. From the outside I don't think it would look like anything that distinguished, but from the inside, I love seeing the life I have and the people and relationships and places in it all developing and changing. Dressing didn't figure in until well after that story began, so each storyline has been adapting to the other. Although I first dabbled in intermediate school with one of my sisters dresses, I didn't dress at all after that until I rediscovered it about 10 years ago, and have been learning little by little and finding new happiness in it continually as I go. I'll always keep trying new styles and silhouettes, but I feel like the way I dress now is pretty close to the final form it will take--when I have time and space that I can do a complete job of it, and be immersed in it, and only as often as circumstances allow for that. However, in crossdressing as in life, as difficult as it can be for us, whether in long term relationships or trying to find others like yourself, the more you share the more will come back to you.
