I will have posted more attractive photos but none I am prouder of. This was taken after venturing out of my front door fully dressed this rainy morning in England for the first time in daylight. Many years ago I overcame a fear of public speaking with the help of wonderful mentors and went to help others with the same fear, ending up mentoring young executives in speaking and presentation skills. I did it by convincing them to speak in front of an audience for five seconds the first time and allowed them to build confidence to progress. I have now decided after four years of hardly going out to apply the same rule to going out dressed. I offer this as I hope it will help others like to me who are frightened of going out to take the first step. I do so with great thanks to all at CDH for your help and support.

Retired and widowed just over three years ago. I now have found a wonderful sense of peace and comfort with a sense of growing femininity. I have socialised with friends fully dressed and also live entirely as a woman at home. I prefer to see myself in a traditional female role, although I realise this is an ideal type, as it reflects my personality and interests. It is a great relief and pleasure to able to be my natural self rather than a masculine misfit. I am looking forward to expressing this more freely in the future. Very much enjoying CDH and the safe fun environment it provides. Despite being a retired Librarian I love chatting!

A proper British woman wouldn’t be caught out in the rain without her mac! 🥰

That’s an interesting theory, Janet. For those who are hesitant to go out in public, it’s something to consider. I took the complete opposite approach. For my first public debut is Angela, I went all out and visited a local museum. I thought it was a nice environment, because there were people around, but they were focusing on the exhibits and not on me.

Janet, are you wearing ‘a mac’ like the Beatles sang about?

Congratulations Janet. Reading about other ladies stories here on CDH also played a part in my eventual decision to go out in public as a trans woman. And don’t worry, it will get a little bit easier each time you go out.

Janet, I’m so glad you are getting out. Too bad it rained on you, but I have a feeling by the time you got back home, the sun was shining on you inside your house. It’s such a beautiful feeling of accomplishment.
