Nice article, Marie Claire. I wrote how I chose my femme name on my profile so I copy it here: “Gisela comes from two successful women I admire greatly. Same as the name Claudine. Three very close and dear friends. I love the name. It evolved from Gisela Teresa to Gisela Cherilyn and finally to Gisela Claudine. Some old online friends call me Tracy, Sita or Lynn. Nicknames I have used. But my preferred name is Gisela". Gisela derives from the old high German word gisal. It means pledge. Claudine is the french version of Claudia. It means lame or… Read more »

What a fascinating post! Such a great way to force us all to reflect on our inner woman and try to see what makes her who she is. My name, Chloe, originates from Ancient Greece where it meant a new plant shoot growing in spring, part of a ephitet by the goddess Demeter who was always associated with plants. It’s fascinating to think about because that’s exactly how i see myself. A new, growing and blossoming being trying to be the best she can be in this world. I also happen to love Greek mythology, so all the more fitting.… Read more »

Thank you for the article Marie. Turns out that Bree translates to “The Exalted one" in Irish…It took many years and rocky roads before I could accept that level of Self Esteem. An American interpretation of the name relates it to the Soft Cheese from France. (I was born and raised in Wisconsin…Cheese???). I guess I could develop a link. Heath, on the other hand came from the basic perception I have had for myself. Introverted and having faced a list of challenges in my life I developed a Sweet exterior that many see but under the Sweet exterior….A hard… Read more »

Hi ladies, I am another one of the Laurens, but story behind that is that it is actually my birth name, the one on my birth certificate, the one my mother gave me. In retrospect I now know that my mother knew I was “different" and feminine.  I grew up with ample teasing and questions about having a girl’s name but I always knew from a very young age that I was supposed to be a girl so it didn’t really bother me.  I came out as transgender and transitioned three years ago and found out in May of 2023… Read more »

My middle name is Francis. I feminized it with Frances. Kay is a fem name that IMHO is a beautiful feminine name; thus FRANCES KAY.

it’s interesting that we’re given a name, but in our situation, we get to choose one that is meaningful for us. One of the perks!
I chose the name Miranda because it has the meaning of admirable. In  my eyes ( or I guess ears)  Miranda a very elegant and feminine name. It’s also the name of a moon of Uranus, which for me is important since I’m a bit of a science nerd.  That moon has a very complex landscape, which is not unlike my complex personality.🤦🏽‍♀️
