I’ve just managed to get a pair of patent red 5″ heels in my size. The first pair I ordered were an 11 (UK) but I could barely get my stockinged feet in them, and when I did they were painful. I sent them back and go a 12…. These fit well, but my heel slips out of the back when I walk. I’m new to 5″ heels, I’m normally a 3 to 4″ girl.

So, what do you lovely people suggest? Ideally available in the UK to avoid long delivery times and postage costs. At the moment, I’m using two rolled up strips of Blue Tack…. This works but has already wrecked my best pair of stockings.

All suggestions and advice gratefully received.

If the 3 and 4s work fine, why not just stay with them, Linda.

Because sometimes, just sometimes, you need to stretch the envelope. Plus…. I think I look amazing in them! 🙂

          “amazing”

Say no more, Linda. Do it, girl!

If you want to stick to your size 12 then I would suggest a visit your local Timpsons which you will probably find in some small corner of a supermarket.

They sell insoles that have the effect of adding half a size to your foot along with gel pads that stick to the back of your shoe. They will do much the same as your blu-tak but without the damage to your stockings.

      Linda,

I’m with you girl – nothing like a nice 4-5” heel!  I too am miserably in-between sizes, an 11 too loose, a 10 often too tight but I always lean towards the tight side to avoid the very issue you’re experiencing.

I’ve had some success with ‘gel heel pads’ for heels that were slightly too big for me, and as Andi suggests, some combination of heel pad and insole inserts might work best for you.  The heel pads I’ve used before were sold as items targeting relief from bone spurs and plantar fasciitis so you may need to look more in the medical devices areas for them?  They are easy to get here in the US and I have to believe equally so in the UK?

The other thing I did was to invest in a proper pair of shoe stretchers made specifically for high heels.  They don’t work well on all shoes but depending on the material, I can usually stretch my 10’s to a 10.25-10.5 without a lot of issue.  Fair warning though, some of the shiny patent finishes don’t take kindly to stretching, so if you go that route and have shoes like that – use caution!

Good luck on your quest, and I bet you do indeed look amazing in them!
