Charles Spence an Oxford University food scientist has discovered the right way to eat your chocolate Biscuits. Yep your are reading this correctly. The correct way is to bring your biscuits with the chocolate facing upwards to your mouth, this creates a visual anticipation of the taste to follow. Then you must flip it over with the chocolate facing downwards before you take your first bite. This is because the most tastebuds on on the surface of your tongue. Gosh what job these scientists have. So are you eating your wrong or right?

Reminds me of the very serious research into the perfect dunking time for a biccie. Apparently between 3.5 and 5 seconds depending on the type of biscuit. I will try the chocky biccie method later.

Amanda…
I don’t have a scientific method….
getting a chocolate biscuit into my mouth as quickly as possible is the only approach I have really perfected….works for me.
….and now I know dark chocolate is good for me…..omg

I didn’t know there was such a perfect way to eat a chocolate biscuit.
Sounds like there’s some really serious research going on at the moment!
Thanks Amanda, Stephanie 💖- July 10, 2021 at 2:07 pm #515820Anonymous

Hi Amanda and Grace,
How about dunking first?

Alice…dunking is wonderful….unless you are a witch!!!!
- July 11, 2021 at 2:35 am #516076Anonymous
Hi Alice dunking is fine, but if you are going to flip the chocolate biscuits upside down as they suggest, I would make sure you have a Bib on first, could get messy. Lol Amanda xx

So, a North America, somewhat equivalent, is the correct way to eat a Pringle chip. Not sure you have across the Atlantic, if not, there is this google thing catching on. Apparently the correct way to eat is the way they are stacked, since the seasoning in on the bottom side, even if flipping gives you the nice “tongue hug” feel. Just my thoughts on a different but “somewhat” related topic.
Hugs
Heather
PS – I didn’t have one of these on my last trip to London so seems I may need another trip

Heather…I don’t think I have had a Pringle long enough to examine it….by the way, is it actually possible to eat just ONE and put the lid back on the tub…I think not!!

Thank you Heather, Pringles are a huge seller her in the UK. The principal of tastes can be applied to many different types of foods especially how you now apparently have to eat them.
Like chocolate biscuits, Pringles are exceptionally irresistible and almost impossible to put down once you start.
Not sure if you have tried Pringle sandwiches, I love them. Lol Amanda xx

The nerd in me couldn’t resist researching Charlie boy. From wiki:
“Charles Spence is an experimental psychologist at the University of Oxford. He is the head of the Crossmodal Research group which specializes in the research about the integration of information across different sensory modalities … [snip] … (he) currently works on problems associated with the design of foods that maximally stimulate the senses”
and later on:
“One of Spence’s earliest and most notable experiments in the field of crossmodal food research was “The Role of Auditory Cues in Modulating the Perceived Crispness and Staleness of Potato Chips,” published in the Journal of Sensory Studies in 2004. The experiment was the first to successfully show that food could taste different depending on changes in sound”
This guy is some cookie !!! [groan]

I for one, do not remember, ever being told of the possibility of having a career as a Food Therapist. What a career that must be.

Hi Paula,
I once worked in a lab with a food specialist. She looked into food freshness, storage, repeatability, reuse of the packaging materials, and the economics of what the overall cost Adds to a product. Sorry no chocolates evaluated.

Sounds like a dream job, eat chocolate all day in the name of science – and be paid to do it!/kt

We don’t have to flip it here in the US. The closest thing is the Keebler Fudge Stripes. They have a chocolate bottom, then the cookie, and then a few stripes of chocolate drizzled across the top. So the chocolate is already on the bottom, and visually on top you see both the cookie and the chocolate.

I just eat straight chocolate, no need to flip.
