(Based on a true story during my difficult process of coming out as… whoever I am.)

Hanging my dresses up for all to see

And by all I mean me,

Hanging loud and proud in the closet and I relate,

Fate’s hand with painted nails beckons to I know not where,

Fear my greatest weakness, my only friend,

Progress, step by step, painstaking slow,

This morn awoke to hear refraining low:

      “You are a beautiful woman,

      you are a beautiful woman,

      you are a beautiful woman,”

O’er and o’er the chorus rose

      With passion, confidence unknown,

I knew the voice was not my own,

      And yet it resonated deep.

      Today I hang my dresses high;

Tomorrow who knows?  Not even I.

      Astrid,

This is a beautiful poem.  I first noticed it because I am a pilot, and thought this was about airplanes.  I just brought my airplane home in pieces today with the help of my brother, a retired airline pilot.  My airplane has significant issues with the ailerons to be corrected. When I get them fixed, I plan to sell the airplane and give up conventional flying. There is one more aircraft in my future. It is called the Jetson and is way cool. Expensive, but life is short and girls just wanna have fun.

      Hugs,

      Kerri
