Thank you for the note, Stevie. I really enjoyed his songs, and living in Michigan, I’m rather familiar with the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I used to park under the Mariner’s Church in downtown Detroit when I was still working. Also been up to the light houses on the Lake Superior shore of the UP. I listened to all his songs back in the 60’s and 70’s, but had forgotten that he wrote Early Morning Rain (which PP&M charted) which I really like. He will be missed.

My Gramps used to take me to the Great Lakes Maritime Museum. It was in Vermillion, OH, then. They had a display of the Edmund Fitzgerald as it was believed to lie on the lake bottom. A rich and sometimes sad history.
I think the museum is in Toledo, now.

Beautiful soul who will be greatly missed. I still listen to him on rainy Sundays or when I’m on a long drive in the woods. Such a great songwriter and gorgeous voice.
RIP Gordon

I always loved his classic hit: The wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. What a great ballad remembering a tragic wreck on Lake Superior that claimed 26 lives. We will miss you Gordon.

I used to listen to his song “Carefree Highway” when I was feeling down or sad. It always resonated with me and felt like an old friend that understood what I was feeling.
“If You Could Read My Mind” was a song that I loved also.

The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald had significance of me as my hometown, Toledo, Ohio was one of her ports of call. I believe that some of the 29 crew members lost might also have been from Toledo. Sad times.

Yes, Gordon Lightfoot was a wonderful songwriter and often the best interpreter of his own work. I am sad to know that he is gone, but deeply grateful for having my life enriched by his music over the past 6 decades.
