Well another James Bond retires, and the hunt is on for a replacement.
There has been calls for a female to be given the role, but I hear the producers have ruled that out.
So who has been your favourite James Bond?

Without a doubt Sean Connery 1st choice

      Roger Moore 2nd choice.

      Newer bonds just not bond.

Pierce Brosnan. Just think he had the right balance of charm and toughness.

I don’t need him in the list, but didn’t David Niven also play Bond in the original “Casino Royale”?

Not sure David Niven counted as it was a outside of the franchise and considered a spoof.

      “….BOND, JAMES BOND…”
      Connery.
Went to the 1st Bond Movie in Junior High School…Aston Martin; the keyboard player in my Band drove the same automobile.
Had an Austin Powers costume party at my home to demonstrate that THIS WAS NOT ORIGINAL MATERIAL…IT WAS ALL A SPHUFF ON JAMES BOND, GOLDFINGER , ODD JOB AND THE REST OF THE CHARACTERS !!

      Amanda….

Didn’t Russ Abbott play ” Basildon Bond” in ” The Man with the Golden Labrador “??

Seriously…i have liked them all really, except George lazenby….horrendous choice!!

All those early Bonds, ten minute punch ups, and hardly a mark on their pretty faces, not a hair out of place…god forbid they got a black eye!!!

Daniel Craig by a country mile…so much more ruthless, after all, he is an assassin…and just for the realism he portrays…..

This guy actually LOOKS like he has been in a fight….

        Hi Grace
Now the following is a true story. Do you remember how Basildon bond looked like?.
Well we were in a small roadside Cafe, which was packed out with diners and general people having a break from driving. It was late and some of us were tipsy (not me I was one of the drivers).
Well out the blue this man bundles through the door quite innocently and within seconds one of my mates shouts out “Basildon Bond” and the whole place went quiet, then erupted in laughter. I have never seen so many people spit things out in one go. Poor man didn’t know what to do. Absolutely a spitting image of Russ Abbott’s character, brilliant.
The owner gave him a free meal, properly because he couldn’t keep a straight face trying to serve him and felt guilty. Some of us were sliding under the tables in hysterics.
But I must hand it to this person he remained completely cool.

Oh Grace it was one of those hysterical moments, when your actually crying with laughter and your stomach hurts like hell and you have absolutely no control over it. xx

I voted Sean Connery as he was the bond I really grew up with. The whole movie was action and some great villains. I loved the glamour and if I could be a character it was of course Miss Moneypenny as she was of my time and I liked the way she dressed . She was played by Lois Maxwell.

I do think that Daniel Craig has been a great Bond too and  he would be a second choice. Roger Moore was very witty but too suave for the role for me so would be my third choice.

Do any girls remember “Brook Bond”? This was a tea advert of the same name. Chimps dressed as Bond etc. Rather un pc today but it was harmless enough. And chimps like tea.
      (Who said that !!?? … I’m coffee anyway….)

For me it will always be Sean Connery.  He had the charm and sophistication to really pull off James Bond.  So far there has not been a Bond that comes even close.  My second choice would be Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan .   They both have their strengths playing Bond. My only problem with the Roger Moore movies was the last several he played. They became too campy and satirical for me.

Daniel Craig for me just is not James Bond.  I have never liked those Bond movies.  They became much too dark for me.  It has always been the main reason I have always liked James Bond.  It was always fun and a nice distraction from what was going on in the world.

      Hi Amanada,

Another Sean vote, just because he was the Bond I grew up alongside. Roger Moore – I never quite got, but he did somehow make Bond his own brand. After that, a new Bond film just didn’t grab me as much anymore.

I chose Daniel Craig, I really love the Bond movies he was in and I hear the new one is really good too. I can’t wait to get a chance to watch it. For the future I would like to see Idris Elba or Tom Hardy play Bond. I think both of them have great acting potential to play that role.

I do like Daniel Craig as Bond. For previous Bonds, Roger Moore and, of course, Sean Connery has to be on the list of favorites.

Not sure who I would like to see play Bond next, but I’m not opposed to 007 being a woman. If Doctor Who can do it, why not have a Jamie Bond? But, I do understand that if they’re still raking in the money, then they probably won’t change anything drastically.

So, here’s something else I’ve been thinking about. You know how sometimes the Bond villain is an eccentric billionaire? How about Bond trying to take down Jeff Bezos? 🙂 He kind of has that villain look. Maybe we could take it a step further and Elon Musk could be 007? Both have boatloads of $$$, space travel capabilities, fierce rivalry of each other, etc. What do you think?

Great idea Birel, and Richard Branson can play Miss Moneypenny after he has the hair for the part.

Now this is a tough one. You’ve got to give Sean Connery the nod, he invented and perfected the role, he was James Bond but I really liked Daniel Craig’s spin on it, I think he made it more realistic. Roger or Pierce get into a fight they dab the drop of blood from the corner of their mouths and go back to the casino, Daniel looks like he did 15 rounds with Ali by the time it’s done, love it. Going to see the new one on Sunday, I can’t wait. Duchess Kate loved so it’s got to be good. I wonder if I call her she’ll lone me that gold dress she had on at the premier. Now all I need is her body to go in it. lol

As a child of the 70s,

I grew up seeing Roger Moore as Bond before coming to appreciate the Connery films.

I didn’t like Dalton, I enjoyed Brosnan a lot even though the plots were REALLY campy.

I have to say though, Daniel Craig has REALLY grown on me and the grittiness to those films compare to the fantasy of the Moore era and beyond…it’s great.

I have to say that, although I didn’t like the film, I liked George Lazenby in person. I went to High School with his grandson. He was a year behind me and is George Lazenby III. We were on three sports teams a year together and Grandad George showed up a lot to cheer us on. Good guy. This was in the late 80s, I graduated in ’90.

So, The Blond Bond got my vote in the end….

      XOXO

Although Sean Connery was the original James Bond that I grew up with, Daniel Craig to me, captured the REAL essence of James Bond as Ian Fleming had intended, a dark, sinister, ruthless agent who took no prisoners. He can be my date anytime.

Roger Moore was my all time favorite. He was by far the most handsome of the bunch and he was as cool as the other side of the pillow!

If I was a girl, I would have had a passionate love making session with that man – Bond, James Bond!

Scarlett, I agree. It seems like Roger Moore doesn’t get a lot of love from 007 fans, but he’s the Bond I grew up with. And who doesn’t love him fighting Jaws on the train! 🙂

It’s nice to see that George Lazenby is getting some love here, as opposed to hardly a deprecating mention of Timothy Dalton. I’ve heard that bad press is better than no press. I of course grew up with Sean Connery, went to several openings downtown Chicago in those huge theater caverns, a bygone era these days, but huge screens.

A good friend had all the paperbacks and I read them in the order Ian Fleming wrote them, and there are segues from one book to the next, as well as how Bond first defeats Smersh, then the meglomaniacs, then Spectre.  Listening to the beat of my different drum, I liked the Spy Who Loved Me (book that is) more than the others – totally different atmosphere, point of view, sort of offbeat. It’s from the heroine’s viewpoint, and was quite easy for me to get lost in.  If you know what I mean.

I’ve seen the Barry Nelson version, and still enjoy the almost parody in the 60’s Casino Royale with David Niven.  Well, there were about 7 others who were stand-ins for James Bond for different segments.

Hi Amanda, One of the toughest polls for me to answer in awhile.  I read all the books, saw all the movies,  good and bad points to all the choices.  Making it even tougher, I read all the ladies comments, each making a case for her favs.  I guess my favourite James Bond is the one I have made up in my head based on reading the books.  He is a combination of all the choices’ good characteristics.

But in terms of the vote, seeing how you are making me have an opinion, my vote is based on who said the line “Bond, James Bond” most convincingly and that would be Connery.

take care, Amanda, all the very best and have a lovely week.  Hugs, Krista.

        Hi Krista,
Yes Connery gets my vote too.
There has been different options about Daniel Craig which is a little unfair at times , as he had to play the role completely different against the previous bond scripts which was met with resistance from die hard bond addicts. To be fair I think he did a good job. I actually think he would have made a excellent bond villain.
Very sad Sandy didn’t send a hug too.
Lol Amanda xx hugs to Sandy
