As far as I’m concerned the dictionary definition of transvestite is ‘a person who derives pleasure from wearing clothes of a person of the opposite sex’ which of course is what a crossdresser is. However many, including me, prefer the term crossdresser over transvestite. I think this is really down to the media (here in the UK at least) who often portray ‘transvestites’ in connection with porn, prostitution etc. Hence the term has, to a lot of people, become an unpalatable expression. In the end, use the term you prefer, or use no term at all, after all we’re just normal people aren’t we?

“Crossdresser” is a term use to describe all those who like to wear feminine clothes. It covers all the different levels of transgenders. A “transvestite” is someone who likes to dress as the opposite sex but has no desire to physical become the opposite sex. Note: a transvestite can be either a male or female.
