Hi girls,
My therapist brought up the topic of HRT and thought I should consider it. I’m 64 yrs old and smoke. Is HRT even possible if I’m a smoker?
Thanks,
Heather

Hi Heather,
It all depends on whether your primary care physician will sign a medical clearance, smoking or not. But the money you save by quitting could go a long way toward paying the cost of the HRT. Just saying.

First, I’m not an M.D. Anything I write here should not be considered medical advice.
You probably know smoking greatly increases your risk of blood clots while on hormones. Transdermal/injectable estradiol and anticoagulants may somewhat mitigate that risk. Of course, your best option is to quit smoking! Good luck!

Hi Heather,
From what I’ve read, nicotine is somewhat of an Estrogen blocker, and could be basically offsetting any progress the Estradiol might provide.

Hey Bettylou,
Ugh, the logic of that is impossible to ignore. 🙂
