      As the weekend approaches….

Girls, do you like Cocktails??…do you have a favourite??…have you invented your own??…have you tried one that was revolting??….

I definitely think someone should have invented a ” Pink Fog”…cocktail, but what should go in it???

Maybe you only drink them “en femme”….so which cocktail sums up the girl you are????….

      ( Whisper – keep it clean !!! )

Strawberry vodka (make your own if you can’t find any), bailey’s, Malibu rum, 151, and 7up…a pink fog, guaranteed hit as hard as a hurricane.

My personal favorites would be either strawberry daiquiri, or sangria, as Bridgette!

        Wow Bridgette…I couldn’t drink much of that…

        ” hard as a hurricane”….I think you’re spot on with that !!!…

I had 151 when I visited San Juan Bacardi distillery….wicked stuff

        Grace ❤️❤️

        • #469442

Maybe I was thinking of the wrong fog… I’m pretty sure that stuff will keep your head in fog, just maybe not the right fog…

          Bridgette…dammit the rum’s gone again!

      Hey Grace

      Hope you are well!

What a great subject to reply to on a Friday.

Samantha does have a soft spot for an old fashioned but just for the glass its served in, would have to be a pornstar martini.

Oh Grace, how to answer….  Yes, I want to say Sex on the Beach, any beach right now would be nice, lol.  Otherwise certainly I will have a Long Island Ice Tea please.   Make it a double…. 😁.

      • #469447

Long Island Iced Tea… yeah, I remember that day…vaguely. I was in Hong Kong back in…. let’s not say just when that was, but the Union Jack was still on the pole… I’d been walking all over the island all day in the hot sun (always seemed to be hot there every time I was there) and wandered into a Pub in the financial district called The Bull and the Bear. I was got and tired, and not really thinking about it being a British place, and ordered a large iced tea, biggest you can bring. They did. Huge glass, lots of ice, just the right color. I guzzled half of it before it hit my brain that it was a Long Island ice tea. And at that point it didn’t matter anymore… when in Rome…

Hi Grace, I used to be quite the fan of cocktails for the majority of my life.  I gave them up though after my heart attack.  But I do have some cocktail stories to share.

We used to throw parties often back in the good ol’ days.  One time the theme of the party was to invent cocktails.  Right up your alley.  We had about twenty or so types of alcohol to use.  One of the absolute worse inventions was the mix of rye whisky, jagermeister and tequila.  Oh that was sooo bad.  No one could drink more than just a sip.  Some of the concoctions weren’t that bad.  One of the favourites was Butter Rum liqueur mixed with Bailey’s.  That was quite a fun party, I must say.

Now in terms of a drink to be called “Pink Fog”.  My suggestion, and one that I do drink quite a bit, is White Zinfandel wine (which is pink in colour for those not aware), mixed with Club Soda.  Very tasty.

Oh, I need to have some as it is getting a bit depressing here.  It has snowed everyday this week.  Not only do we have cabin fever due to Covid, but heck, winter can stop anytime now.  I even had to bring back upstairs my snow boots to wear for my walks.  And “spring” snow is especially bad for shoveling the driveway as it is so wet and heavy (which I had to do yesterday).  But no more shoveling, I’m thinking positively, it will MELT soon.

Take care my friend, make sure to try some of the wonderful suggestions by all the gurls posting cocktail recipes.  Stay healthy, Big Hugs, Krista.

There is a cocktail called a snowball….probably near the bottom of your ” favourites” list at this moment xx

Back in the mist of time when i was a youngster way back before a lot of you girls were born, the girls in the pubs used to drink babycham’s, they used to drink them in special classes with little deers printed on the side, so i think a pink fog should be babycham and presaco no olives just a slice of lemon x

Grace, I’d have taken a cocktail picture for you today if I’d known!

My homespun favorite is a blood orange gin & tonic, consisting simply of juice from a fresh squeezed blood orange, equal amount (or more to taste) gin, 7oz of tonic, sufficient ice to bring to to the top of a 12oz glass.

        You win.!!!!

.the first person to pick my cocktail of choice…

ok, I haven’t tried blood orange, but this girl is open to suggestions…(keep em clean!!)

Gin and tonic hits all the right notes with me !!! especially on a hot day…xx

Before I retired I was part owner of a liquor store. We used to bring a good supply home occasionally for “new drink parties “.

Jagermeister does NOT go well with anything. I know….we tried ….everything! It only works as a straight shot followed with a beer chaser.

My favorite was an “Irish Rose”. It’s best if you have a shot glass with a divider down the middle. On one side a half shot of Irish Cream. Bailey’s is best or Merry’s is also good. On the other side is a half shot of Strawberry Cream liqueur. Tequila Rose is best but Bartenders Mix is also good. Pour carefully so they don’t mix. Bottoms Up! You WILL want more!

The next one is incredibly dangerous. “Elmer Fudpucker” In a pint glass or tall frosty. Fill with ice, two shots apricot brandy, one shot gin, one shot vodka, finish with orange juice. Stir (the apricot brandy is heavy and always goes to the bottom) and serve. At the bar if you can drink two and walk you can have the third one free! I managed that twice but the aftermath was not pleasant.

There is a variation on the “Fuzzy Navel” that is enjoyable. The”Fizzy Navel” Instead of orange juice, use orange soda with your vodka. You can do the same with a “Tequila Sunrise”

Enjoy!!!! I’ll call for a taxi.

        Beth honey….

Question…what do you call a DJ who part owns a liquor store???

        Answer….bloody lucky!!!

I’m guessing the secret to an Elmer Fudpucker is…..

after each one, when you order the next…..if you insult the bar person….you have had enough!!

        Scar gracelet xx

        • #469515

Yes, the combination of DJ and liquor store was an amazing life! When I retired we closed the store, she didn’t want to do it alone. Of course we had a going out of business sale but still wound up with a lot of booze to take home. Her basement has one entire room devoted to our leftover stock. It will take some time to drink it all! Fortunately booze ages well!

My wife has her strawberry patch and we get quite a haul in the spring so when she stews them down to make jam there’s a lot of juice, she takes this off and collects it in a big jar in the fridge. When the time is right I put ice cubes, strawberry juice, a nice zinfandel and a good shot off lemon juice to make you pucker up into the blender then grind it all up. Take a large frozen wine glass, i wet the glass a bit before it goes in the freezer and dip the rim in confection sugar. When the concoction is nice and smooth into the glasses we go. Now out to the garden on a beautiful sunny summer’s day, comfy chair and relax. Do not drink quickly at first or you’ll get brain freeze. I’ll smile the next time I make these, care for a Canadian pink fog anyone and they won’t have a clue what I’m talking about. Can’t wait.

Heather, it all sounds lovely, and I think you have cracked it…a Canadian pink fog…perfect….10/10…

          Hi Grace,

If your local liquor store doesn’t carry mead try apple wine.

          Alice

        • #469637

Oh yes, mead. Yuuuummmm. Nectar of the gods! Try it made with fruit flavors also. Lemon mead is particularly good. Also strawberry. For the ultimate experience drink it from a Viking horn passed around a circle of friends. You have to make a toast or blessing before taking a drink, then pass it. Each person takes a drink as it passes until it goes all the way around to the person next to you, who starts tbe citcle again with a new toast.

Fots of lun! Where’s bottle next. Horn empty!

Cheers Grace! Please don’t try to tell me it can only be the weekend, my cardiologist and I have had aggressive negotiations regarding that.

In the cooler months I pretty much stick to Rye and Cola, in the warmer weather when II switch to Malibu rum and cram/mango juice, sometimes they go down just a bit to easy. I’m not sure if me wearing less in the summer makes me drink it or if me drinking it makes me wear less, and it doesn’t matter worth a hoot….yummy to both.

When in drab mode, it’s usually beer.  But when en femme, I like my drinks colorful.  A Mai Tai or Sex On The Beach, just to name a couple.

    • #469641

This weekend it will be 4 (small) cups of wine on both Saturday and Sunday nights.  But that is for the Passover Seder.  And I won’t be doing it en femme.

    • #469772

I usually stick with a nice Sangria or Daiquiri.   Way back in the past, there was the Hairy Buffalo punch:  equal parts (usually pints) of Rum, JD, Tequila, 100 proof Vodka, and Everclear.  Pour all in a large punch bowl, add two large cans of fruit punch, two large cans of ice, slice two whole oranges and lemons, mix in the bowl and put it in the freezer for a couple of hours.  Serve after it becomes slushy.

Then there is the Prairie Fire.  Mix one shot of JD and one shot of Tequila in a gimlet glass, add 20 drops of Tabasco sauce, and rub the rim of the glass with Tabasco also.  Drink in single swallow.

      Hi Grace,

      I experimented last night.

Start with a third of a bottle of Lambrusco from Italy, then a pint of Singha Beer from Thailand, a pint of Rev James from Wales, and followed by copious amounts of port. Jump up and down – shaken not stirred.

Wake up the next day and remember. “My first grand child was born yesterday!!!”. I’m a grandad-ma. ”

I’m still floating on the ceiling.

Love to all, today the world is shiny bright!

Hi Grace, and Hi Ladies,    The drink is called Balaclava Nectar.                                                                       This is the recipe.         Thinly peel the rind of half a lemon and shred it fine and pop it in a punch bowl, ad 2 tablespoonfuls of crushed sugar, and the juice of 2 lemons, half of a small cucumber sliced thin with the peel on, toss it several times, then add 2 bottles of soda water,2 bottles of claret and 1 of champagne, stir it well and it’s ready to drink.
