Today was another step in my dressing en femme.

On my way to picking up my glasses, I went to pick up my new Clarks low-heeled pumps. Tried them on in the store and proved that the length was right, but even the wider fronts still need spreading them out more. Ouch.

While I was wearing all femme clothes in stealth mode, I also had breast forms in a jogging bra and I went into the mall’s men’s washroom, to put on the heels. Clomping out of the washroom was a bit disconcerting. Very obvious to the guy standing at a urinal.

I had a short walk to the glasses store and was welcomed again by Emerald with a big smile. She used my en femme name, too. Of course she noticed my heels and said that I rocked them better than she does. Too kind.

Emerald had helped me pick out 3 glasses with different frames for different purposes. Expensive, yes, but I figured that femme frames are a necessary part of creating my presentation. One cat-eye, one half metal rectangular frame for screen work, and a sort of cat-eye for reading.

After picking up my glasses I went to a food supermarket and picked up a couple more things. Yes, a few people in the mall and food store observed me, especially because of my clomping feet, but no long, awkward stares. It was pretty normal on public transit the whole way, too. Almost a normal day, overall.

Came home and soaked the leather shoes with alcohol and started stretching the toe boxes. Ouch.

That’s what I need! Women’s framed eyeglasses. But damn, glasses are expensive so I’ll have to wait a bit longer, but good for you! I’m very happy you had a great experience with Emerald. I think that when I do go to look for and buy women’s frames, as well as to pick them up,  I’ll go in full femme mode. Why not? I’m Jill after all!

      Hugs, Jill

As I mentioned elsewhere, when I first entered the store, a male clerk looked disinterested, but when I mentioned my plan to Emerald, she lit up, was very accommodating and helpful. And I was only underdressing. Today, I wore low-heeled pumps by Clarks even though they hurt and that made for a bit more lighthearted banter.

If you go full en femme, Jill, you will set the stage for a good experience.

Try Zenni optical and forget the hi prices exist. I broke down and bought a pair of women’s Oakley in blue. They were 600.00 but worth it and bifocal.

I still wear my Zenni optical regularly depending on my hair style.

I went to the UK’s SpecSavers, who just opened up a bunch of outlets in Toronto.

Even so-called discount specs are hexpensive.

I don’t know about alcohol. I would worry about the alcohol drying out the lanolin in the leather as that is what keeps in pliable. Perhaps apply lanolin afterwards?

I have used a bit of water, too, to allow stretching easier, but I spent more time using a 🧹 handle. The shoes are almost comfortable, now.

The story goes that, during WW2 basic training, the smart ones would soak their boots before going one marches. The soldiers would stop every now and then to change into dry socks, until the boots were dry. No blisters.

Proper eyeglass frames do make a big difference in completing your feminine look.

I use to buy 3 or 4 frames when I had to renew my prescription but the last time I went with a unisex frame by Ray Ban and they are amazing.

I did the same thing a few years back.

For the longest time, my transformation to Wendy included my drab male styled glasses.  In drab mode I wear frameless lenses, with a smaller lense.   Looks ok in drab mode but in femme mode it doesn’t match at all.

My first pair of girl frame glasses wasn’t great, the nose area didn’t fit at all.  The 2nd and 3rd pair were much better.  I picked a blue frame and a purple frame glasses.  They pair really well with my face and I couldn’t believe just that change elevated my femme appearance.

The lenses were expensive, but the frames were very inexpensive.

I ordered mine online from Glasses USA.  I wear bifocals and had been using reading glasses while out as Diana.  My drab glasses were very masculine.  It was frustrating not being able to see clearly all the time and the selection of reading glasses was terrible.  I finally broke down after my last drab glass replacement and took that prescription and went online.  It has been great being able to see all the time and I like the look it gives me.

Going in, I was only looking for two pairs of glasses; one for screen work/play, one for distance/driving/general use. These are the most cat-eye shaped.

They knew that I would have a difficult time reading with them, so they offered a deal on a pair for up close stuff, too. My prescription is so strong now that progressives were being a real problem, so these were all standard lenses.

I have two pairs of women’s glasses now and bought them online with my prescription. I love being out en full femme too and yes the glasses really make a difference

Hi Harriette,  I’m blind as a bat without my glasses and don’t have the right conditions to wear contacts.  So, I have several pairs of women’s glasses and sunglasses to fit my looks.  I usually use empty frames that I buy at resale or the net and then have them reframed at Overnight Glasses with my Rx.  That way I can see with several frames that make me look good but are reasonable in price.  I usually have to change lenses every two years.  I hope this helps.  Thanks, Marg

A few years ago my plan was to get some femme glasses. I had wire frame glasses, and they looked OK while en femme, but I was looking for something that was decidedly femme. The optometrist was associated with the eye doctor, and I would have ordered at least a distance pair en femme. At the time I needed one pair for distance, one for working on a terminal/computer, and one for reading.

But when I went to update my prescription, they couldn’t correct my vision beyond 20/40 with glasses. The doctor found the start of cataracts, and what he called macular puffing. This is when the vitreous humor (the fluid in the eye) dries out somewhat, and pulls a membrane of tissue over the macula, distorting vision. But when I went to a specialist, he also found that the cornea was somewhat drying out, causing hills and valleys instead of a smooth surface. Using gas permeable (hard) lenses acts as an artificial cornea and corrects the problem.

So I ended up getting the hard contacts and didn’t have a need for femme glasses for distance. I could now buy over-the-counter femme sunglasses. I still need reading glasses, but these are dollar store (or now, $1.25) magnifiers. I have a few femme pair for when I go out and need reading glasses.

Looking at unisex frames like the now discontinued Marchon M-8501.

Harriette, I took the same step back in August 2019; I also wrote a forum post about my experience. Thank you for sharing your experience; reading your story was like reliving mine.

I have always wanted girly glasses but I would have been too embarrassed to get them in person. My distance vision was terrible, couldn’t even think of going without glasses. Then I had cataract surgery. It improved my vision so much I can legally drive without them. I wasted know time in picking up some women’s sunglasses. I have no fear of driving around with makeup on, my wig and sunglasses. I don’t believe anyone would recognize me in that mode. Wonderful feeling

Cataracts are just starting to form, so I don’t wish to have them bother me for many years still.
