April Ashley one of the pioneers of transgender rights has died aged 86. She was the the second person from the U.K. to undergo gender affirming surgery in 1960. She worked as a model, showgirl and actress, even appearing alongside Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in Road to Hong Kong
She worked hard for transgender rights, always with glamour, calm and respect. She received the Order of the British Empire (presented to her by Prince Charles).
The greatest tribute I can pay to her is by quoting her, “I know more than anyone how people can judge you, but I also know if you are true to yourself, that’s all that matter.”

Very sad to read such a brave pioneer has passed away, such a beautiful lady and such an amazing inspiration to us all. God bless her and may she rest in peace.
