As some of you may know I have been dithering about whether to go out dressed or not.I have had such great and wise advice from some of you girls,I think it only right to go out and do it one day.The last couple of weeks I have been practicing a female voice.I think I can achieve this with some more practice. One ace I do have up my sleeve that I am a good mimic.I also have a good singing voice. And can imitate a female singing voice very well. Before my wife found out about my Roberta side I used to spend hours in front of the mirror singing along to Celene Dion,The Corrs,Karen Carpenter and other girly stuff. It really made me feel oh so girly.I have long way to go with the speaking voice but once the lockdown in the UK eases next year I will do it.My wife has a few reservations but I think that deep down she is quite keen.

Roberta good luck with your voice. My man voice isn’t exactly deep but I have never had a great female voice. Everything I have studied says to be as careful with variations in inflection as tone. Men naturally talk close to monotone, whereas women naturally use a much broader variation of range. Several years ago I ended up sharing a table at a hotel restaurant for several hours chatting with a “middle aged” couple. I am not naive enough to believe carrying on a one on one conversation for 2 hours face to face they didn’t know I was a cd, but I talked politely and with every lesson I had learned. I truly believe it is about presentation and personal acceptance. Be the best, normal woman you can, and most people will either ignore you, or not care. Don’t fret over your voice, just present the best most comfortable and self accepting woman you can and most (anyone that matters) will be fine with you. Now go have fun and enjoy!

There is an app called Voice Pitch Analyzer that gives feedback on our pitch as femme, androgynous and masculine. I can see how mine has improved over time.

Well my voice is extremely deep, when I was younger I tried to sound softer and more feminine, but as I got older my voice got deeper and deeper. I tended to sound like a dog’s squeaky toy being strangled, or one of the police men in a Haribo advert (you may have to be in the UK to get this). Or a complete idiot with a helium gas addiction. Further more I and my eldest daughter often go on shopping trips with me en femme, (I get a few travel perks part of the job). Bless I love her to bits, but one of the conditions, after our talk on my passion, was and I quote ( “If your with me I will never call you Amanda, your my dad and that’s how I’m addressing you”). So from then on I thought it a complete waste of time, what’s the point of pretending to speak like a female, when the girl next to you calls you dad, or kisses your cheek and says “Thank you dad” as you pay. Pointless exercise really. Is it embarrassing?, well the first few time I wanted to die, and just stood there like a rabbit in the headlights of a car, God I so want to pee my knickers with fear of the reaction about to hit me. But it was minimal, I don’t think the check out staff knew how to process it in their minds or what to say, except try and pretend it’s nothing. By now I am use to it, but it’s still funny to see people eyes pop open when she says dad. The only thing I wish she wouldn’t do is shout it across the crowded shop, I am sure she does that on purpose, little devil.
