This is quite an old post that seems to have been resurrected.
If you look under the Social tab and click on Find Friends, you can search for local members.
I just tried that for Germany, and there are quite a few that have been active very recently.

I live on an Island in the Pacific Ocean, sounds exotic, but Victoria BC is only a two hour ferry ride from Vancouver BC.
