I was about 10 years old and was wearing my mum’s tights whilst the rest of the family had gone to town (this had been a regular occurrence for about a year). Unbeknownst to myself, they came home earlier than… Read more»

I’ve noticed that all teens now don’t bother with coats or anything. I’m trying to think if we were like that when we were at that age, or whether I’m just getting old. The current fashion for wearing skin-tight athletic leggings with no socks in all weathers just makes me feel cold.

Hi Rachael,
Not a weird at all. However, being a secret dresser, I’ve had it when my other half has called and I’ve been half dressed. When the inevitable question was asked about what I was doing, I’m sure I came across a little shady and different – however, I was half dressed in just a blouse and tights.
This sounds ridiculous, but I almost…[Read more]

Katie Delvatine replied to the topic Pantyhose vs tights in the forum Fashion Beauty & Makeup 7 months ago
Chrissie,
This comes up a lot – and I can’t really add anything to what has already been said – however one historical difference, I believe, is that pantyhose originally used to have a “panty” liner, so nothing needed to be worn underneath. Over time, this liner disappeared, but you will still find some pantyhose have a thicker gusset, which you…[Read more]

Agreed Veronica – it can be a bit or miss with the more expensive types, which is why it only happens rarely. I can’t really justify the cost for what you actually get. In my experience it’s not necessarily the quality, but the sizing – and if you get it wrong, you can’t really send them back.
I also like tights that are sheer to waist, or at…[Read more]

This post is absolutely spot on.
I can only comment about what is happening in the UK and I would say the general mood is how you have described it. However, the prevailing negativity and outright hostility is not limited to CD/TG or those issues in particular – it is across the board against a lot of things – much of it being driven by an agenda…[Read more]

Personally I prefer the warm, thicker tights that go well with autumn/winter outfits – and most of mine come from M&S or John Lewis in the UK. I have a variety of different colours: lots of navy blue, grey black and brown – but occasionally something brighter like red or mustard. Occasionally, I will splash out on some expensive ones from European…[Read more]

Cece,
My gut reaction is what a few others have already mentioned, that this could be a movable line. We’re all speculating to a degree, as we obviously don’t know all of the circumstances, but people do change over time often as a result of significant life events, such as marriage, change of job/location, children etc. – what may have been…[Read more]

I believe tights in Spanish are “leotardos”, so not sure if there is a connection there or not.

Daphne from Scooby Doo.
Strangely enough, I saw a slightly modern version of Scooby Doo on TV the other day, and I’m sure she’s changed. Her legs definitely look bigger than what I remember.

Roberta,
As someone who also grew up in the UK, I don’t recall ever seeing any literature on crossdressing or “transvestism” as it then tended to be called (sounds like a disease doesn’t it?). My main experience was either seeing the occasional individual dressed up, much to the amusement and ridicule of my parents, or from “drag” experiences on…[Read more]

I remember the dial up internet access when I was at University and it was just starting to become more widely available. However, we used something called Mosaic. Anyone remember that?

Rosiebeth,
There are normally two reasons why I want to purge: either guilt of who I am (which I know should never be a reason) and worry that someone may find my stuff (as no-one else knows that I CD) – sometimes the two go hand in hand.
I think some of the suggestions of a “purge box” are great, and ideal for scenario 1, where you can…[Read more]

Whilst I totally agree with your sentiments Cerys, and it does pain me to say this, I still think you have to be careful. You literally have no idea who could move next door to you, and in today’s climate they may have extreme views.
I know you can’t live your life thinking like that all the time, but I also think it’s sometimes wise just to wait…[Read more]

Chloe,
A great post, and one I think we all identify with. It doesn’t matter what we think, how and why – whether it’s inherent in us or not – just be yourself and enjoy the moment now and going forward.
Interesting though, when I first read the title of your post, I thought you meant is it time to stop trying to explain why we dress to “others”…[Read more]
